  • Choices for America 8-19-2011

Although golf is not my forte’ (being about an 84 scratch golfer), I love to see excellence wherever it appears (or do excellence, myself, when possible). After watching, and applauding Keegan Bradley win the PGA Championship, as a rookie, in a playoff, I watched 60 Minutes (which I usually don’t watch, since it’s usually a promoter of liberalism and associated underachievement).

  • Spending limit should go 8-19-2011

The law that establishes a limit on the amount of money Congress can spend is not workable and should be taken off the books. It only creates hours of rancor and arguments that always fail to accomplish their intended purpose.
Raising the limit does nothing to curb the spending, so we might just as well let the Congress spend anyhow. Nothing has stopped them heretofore, so why make an ineffective feint about raising the limit every time it is reached?

Some more thoughts regarding tax reform
“Upper and middle class taxpayers can no longer bear the entire tax burden.”
So what is left? The poor! Twenty-five years ago, only 19 percent of Americans paid no income taxes and now it is up to 47 percent. Do we ask ourselves why? Is it really because we are giving preference to the poor or is it that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer? A so-called fair tax or flat tax on the poor?
Would that make them richer or poorer? Would this make the rich richer?

    Found ring

To the gentleman who found my husband’s wedding ring in Wendy’s across the road on the Southwest 200 Corridor on July 17, I can’t thank you enough. It’s hard to believe there are people like you who are honest. God bless you and yours.

    Drain on Medicare

Medicare does not make any rules. Congress makes the rules.

Congress decides how much money Medicare is given to operate.

  • This day sets us apart

As I sit here in anticipation of Independence Day, I realize that this is the day that sets the United States apart from the rest of the world, this is the day that makes us so unique.

  • We are broke 07-08-2011

America is broke, folks. Broke, broke.

Embed that fact onto your brain.

You can yell and scream all you want about whether something is an entitlement, or, an investment. There is no money for either. You cannot get blood from a turnip, nor, money from an empty fund.

  • Knowing our history 07-01-2011

One thing we get from reading editorials and columns in this and other newspapers is that some writers think they know all the answers to whatever is being discussed.  Wanting our country to return to the Christian principles on which it was founded is NOT an attack on our country by the religious right, rather the desire to keep God in his rightful place.
