  • Proposed routes revealed for new toll road

    The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has released the proposed routes for the proposed Coastal Connector highway. The routes were unveiled last Thursday in Crystal River and were to be presented again Tuesday evening at the Hilton in Ocala.

  • Shooting at Forest High

    OCALA -- A 17-year-old student was injured and his assailant was taken into custody in a shooting at Forest High School Friday morning.
    The 19-year-old non-student suspect, Sky Bouche of NW 7th Ave., Crystal River,  was confronted by the school resource officer, Deputy Jim Long, within three minutes of the 8:39 shooting. During the capture of the shooter, no shots were fired, according to Sheriff Billy Woods, who briefed the media around noon. He added that the suspect offered no resistance.

  • Many millennials unaware of Holocaust

    There’s an old quote with many variations that is one of my favorites. Here’s one of many choices: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
    In our schools, both public and private, we are great in STEM, science, technology, engineering and math. It seems that we have gotten away from some of the core learning that many of us experienced when we were in school.
    I’ve always felt that English and related subjects should be emphasized. Social media have destroyed grammar and spelling. Is anyone still teaching these?

    Tennis at Golden Ocala

    Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club will host the Sixth Annual Marion Tennis Masters on Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22. It will include divisions 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0, as well as open divisions, with every participating athlete guaranteed two matches consisting of men’s, women’s or mixed doubles.

    My favorite time of the year is summer and I don’t care what the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage says. Summer is what I live for especially here in Florida.
    As soon as fall arrives in full steam I am looking forward to summer with uncontrollable anticipation.
