    I am the kind of person who likes to do business with cash on the barrelhead. I do not like credit because it has a way of biting you in the end. When you have a credit card, there are fees to beat the band. I do have a credit card but I have it hidden so well that I have not been able to find it for seven weeks. I just do not like using it.

    Two-day VFW flea market


    The VFW annual flea market is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All rental spaces have been sold out. Taking donations both small and large, to benefit our veterans and their families. Small donations may be dropped off at the Post.     Two-day Autumn Gift Market


    The Junior League of Ocala is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of women and children through community outreach and public service. We will be hosting The Junior League of Ocala’s 17th annual Autumn Gift Market at the Circle Square Cultural Center, 8395 S.W. 80th St., Ocala, on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Tickets are $5 and all proceeds will benefit the community projects of the Junior League of Ocala.

  • On your next visit to Freedom Public Library, stop in at the lobby bookstore. The Friends organization started the bookstore two months ago on a trial basis. We’re very pleased with its acceptance.

    Fort King Festival planned

    The annual Fort King Festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, featuring living history exhibits and demonstrations of skills of early settlers.

    Autumn run for autism

    The ninth annual 5K Autumn Run for Autism at Silver Springs will take place Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 a.m.

    Race day registration starts at 6 a.m.

    Adults are $15, students 19 and under $12. All entries after Sept. 10 are $20.

    Order of the Purple Heart meets

    The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 466 Of Ocala, will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Ocala Elks Lodge, 702 N.E. 25th  Ave., at 11 a.m. for all members.

  • Friendship Baptist Church
    Sunday services at Friendship Baptist Church on Aug. 26 begin with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. followed by the morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. Pastor Randall Brown will bring a challenging Bible message. The choir rendition and special music will be under the direction of Linda Brown.
    The Sunday evening Bible study and Youth Life Group will meet at 6 p.m. The youth pastor is C. J. Fouraker. On Aug. 28 the men will meet for prayer at 8:30 a.m. The Wednesday night Bible study and teen impact will be at 7 p.m.
