You’re invited to Preserve yard sale

Just down the road apiece many Spruce Creek Preserve residents are busily preparing for the community’s annual yard sale. This much looked forward to event will take place in the Preserve parking lot on S.R. 200, three miles southwest of C.R. 484 on March 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The large American flag will wave you in.

Avid shoppers have dubbed this sale the best by far in the entire area. So if you’re hankering for an interesting, fun-filled, money-saving yard sale, then hanker no more.

Put your comfy shoes at your bedside, set your alarm clock and be on your way by gate time, March 28. Nine o’clock comes around mighty early, so don’t dally.

Here’s another potluck dish that’s easy to assemble and pass around at those community suppers.

Tasty Baked Beans

1 large can of pork and beans

1 large can of green lima beans drained

1 large can kidney beans, drained

1 large onion chopped

1/2 lb. bacon, diced

2 teaspoons garlic juice

1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup catsup.

1 tablespoon prepared mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Fry bacon in skillet until crisp, add onion and brown with bacon. Mix all ingredients. Place in baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes. It’s great.

Sunday, March 8 – Midwest Club is Laughing with the Legends at CFCC. See Preservist Barb Parker to pay for or pick up tickets. Meet at Community Center parking lot at 2 p.m. to carpool. Dinner at Joe’s Restaurant in Inverness.

Tuesday, March 10 – Craft Club is making iris folding and padded cards at 9:30 a.m. Sign-up sheet in craft room. Cards displayed in foyer cabinet. Bring scissors, ruler and scotch tape. See Ethel Kleiner for information.

Wednesday, March 11 – Midwest Club meeting at 4 p.m. Please wear name badge. Election of officers for 2009-10. Dinner afterward at a site to be announced.

Thursday, March 12 – Homeowners insurance seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. in Community Center ballroom. See Julie, administrative assistant, in her office.

Thursday, March 12 – Water and sewer rate increase hearing in County Commission auditorium at 601 S.E. 25th Ave. Get the facts firsthand.

Friday, March 13 – Nor’easter Club meeting at 4 p.m. in multi-purpose room. A brief meeting will be followed by a cocktail party. BYOB and snacks to share, paper supplies furnished. Collecting dues and dinner reservation payments.

Saturday, March 14 – St. Patrick’s Day dinner and dance from 6 to 11 p.m. sponsored by the Aristocrats. Music by Rainbow Connection. Cost of $7 per person includes dinner and dance. BYOB and drawing. See Heather Garner for information.

Friday, March 20 – Midwest Club baseball trip. See Jean Overway for information.

Saturday, March 28 – SCP Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday, April 3 – Communitywide Block Party from 6 to 10 p.m. sponsored by Area 7. All Preservists welcome in the Community Center ballroom. Music by Patty and friends. See Liz and Pat for information.

Saturday, April 4 – Fashion show and luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. Fashions by Belk’s. Cost is $8 per person. See Jeanie for information.

Valentine’s Day dance pictures on DVD in the library. You may view the DVD in your home but please do not keep it. Thanks to Frank Thomas for creating this DVD for our pleasure.

Nor’easter Club is taking reservations for another table at the 2010 CFCC Webber Center Dinner and Show. A wonderful evening of good eating and lots of laughs. This is our 10th year of supporting the CFCC Foundation scholarships. Date is Feb. 3, 2010. Cost is $50 per person. See Bev McKenna for information.

Preservist Sandy Gaile gives a big thanks to all the members of Horse Sense who baked and donated to the Stirrups and Studs bake sale which at the Florida Horse and Carriage show.

Bingo every Tuesday evening for Preservists and overnight guests. Cards on sale from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Games start promptly at 6:30 p.m.
