Patricia Reed speaks to crowd

By Jim Clark
One of the write-in candidates in the Nov. 6 County Commission election appeared at a candidate forum Tuesday, and spoke to the audience and answered questions.
Patricia Reed is an opponent of incumbent Stan McClain in the race for County Commission District 3. There is another write-in candidate listed, Robert Brown. McClain won the Republican primary in August over Jeff Gold, and would have been elected had there not been the write-in candidates. There are no Democrats in the race.
Although Reed won’t be listed on the ballot, she was given the same treatment as other candidates. She was the only one in her race to appear.
Among Reed’s comments:
n She’s against the recent decisions to remove impact fees. “The impact fees never should have been suspended.
n She said that she’s good at listening to others. She spoke of a recent hearing where the current commissioners “weren’t listening” to a lady, who “was overrun” by the Commission.
n She said she believes the social service programs are the responsibility of government.
n She said she doesn’t ever see curbside recycling becoming mandatory, “particularly with the current Commission.”
Candidates in various other county races appeared, using the same format. Because of deadlines, their comments will be covered next week.
The forum was held at the main library.
