What is the difference? 02-11-2011

Letter to the editor by Wayne Rackley

I would hope that most Americans, regardless of political preference, would agree on two basic principles: First, a divided nation cannot stand; and second, a bankrupt nation will not survive. Hard choices must be made, especially economic decisions.

A review of election results shows a liberal mindset in the Northeastern States, California and a couple of other states, with the others much more conservative in their views. There are many exceptions to this geographic breakdown but we are looking at the majority of citizens in the respective states.

It boils down to how we expect to solve our nation’s problems, in other words, who do we trust to do this?  How you answer these questions clearly determines how liberal or conservative you are, just which direction you want our country to follow.

If you are not sure of the direction you are leaning, here are a few examples, a test if you will, that identifies your personal mindset. They are as follows:

If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he simply doesn’t buy or own one,

If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants guns to be outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat,

If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants to ban meat products.

If a conservative is having a rough time financially, he works to pull himself out of it,

A liberal will wonder what government agency will take care of him.

If a conservative needs health care for his family, he goes shopping for it,

A liberal demands a national program so the rest of us will pay for his care.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host or TV program, he switches channels,

A liberal wants them closed down, put out of business.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church,

A liberal wants any mention of God to be silenced.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life,

A homosexual liberal demands legislated recognition and parades his lifestyle.

A conservative wants to combat rising oil/energy prices by using our own natural resources,

A liberal wants to do away with large vehicles and force us into hybrid/electric cars.

A conservative will get a laugh out of the above, a leftist liberal may be offended, however these eight points do tell a lot about personal responsibility and how much you want the federal government making decisions for you. At least think about what America you want for your family, now and in the future. Our children’s future is in our hands, let’s keep America great!
