West Port senior dies in accident

Others hurt in wreck in front of Meadowbrook Church

A West Port High School student was killed and his two passengers injured Thursday, Aug. 22 in an accident on Southwest 20th Street in front of Meadowbrook Church.
According to Ocala Police, Angel David Guevara Arenas, 20, was driving his BMW eastbound on 20th when for an unknown reason the car crossed the median and struck a westbound 1998 Oldsmobile, driven by Brandon Michael Haley Hyde, who was enroute to the same high school. He is a West Port graduate and was a volunteer assistant football coach, and was going to the school for a preseason football game. He was hospitalized, but then released.
Also struck was a Honda which received some damage to the passenger side, but the driver, Wilford Joseph Laughlin, 82, and his wife were not injured.
Passengers in Arenas’ car were Emanuel Casillas Green, 17, and Daniel Espinoza, 18. Both were taken to local hospitals by ambulance.
Ocala Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
