Arts, ceafts at Ocala Palms

An Arts and Craft Bazaar will take place at Ocala Palms, U.S. Highway 27, one mile west of Interstate 75, on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join us for a delightful day of shopping from a variety of talented crafters and artists.

A hot dog lunch will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, enjoy delicious sweet treats at our bake sale. This event is free and is held indoors.

Harvest Meadow yard sale

SW Ocala subdivision Harvest Meadow is having its annual Community Yard Sale on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon. The develop0ment is just off SW 60th Avenue. There will be collectibles, housewares, furniture, toys/children’s items, clothing, and videos/DVDs at various houses.

Quail Meadow yard sale

Quail Meadow community yard sale will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. to ?, NW 49th Avenue (off U.S. Highway 27) near Walgreens. Rain date Nov. 5.

Marion Landing Indoor Fall Sale

The Marion Landing Fall Sale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Lifestyle Center. Large selection of jewelry, books, homemade baked goods, plants, sports equipment and tools, along with tables full of household items and giftware. 8601 SW 65th Avenue Road (off SR200). Admission is free and open to the public. No pets, please.

SPCA’s Charity Bunco

Calling all Bunco aficionados. The SPCA Charity Bunco that you have been waiting for is coming this fall and you can now start buying tickets. The event will be a fun afternoon at the Arbor Conference Center in On Top of the World Communities on Saturday, Nov. 4. Time is 1 to 4:30. We will have multiple prize winners, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing. There will be refreshments during the intermission. Cost to play will be $20 per person. We will be playing at card tables, so there will be 4 persons per table. You can buy one ticket or you can buy for a group. Meadow Glenn garage sales

The Meadow Glenn Subdivision is having a community garage sale, its first before winter, Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Meadow Glenn Community has grown from 220 homes, when we had our first event in March 2015, by more than 150 additional homes and still growing. Many families moving in, plus others, will be joining in the fun for the first time, 50+ homes participating and more are joining our list daily.

The gates at both entrances, SW 62nd Avenue and 49th Avenue (both at 99th Street Road) will be open for all shoppers. Our community is located behind 95th Street’s Freedom Library. With so many homes, there is bound to be something to spark everyone’s interest.

There will be balloons on mailboxes marking homes participating. Maps at individual garage sales will be posted showing all locations. Map will be highlighted to show homes involved so you can find them easily.

Main library book sale

The Friends of the Ocala Public Library Holiday Quarterly Book Sale is Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Ocala Public Library, 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.

Readers of all ages will find hundreds of current novels both hardcover and paperback, classics, and a full Dewey Decimal range of special interest categories. For browsing convenience, all hardcover fiction is alphabetized by author’s last name.

Stock up now for your gift giving and reading. Hardcover books are 50 cents and paperbacks are 25 cents. All members of the Friends of the Ocala Public Library can take advantage of pre-sale shopping on Friday, Nov. 3 from 2-4 p.m. It’s never too late to join, just go to www.friendsoftheocalalibrary.com or join at the book sale.

All proceeds are used to support library programming at the Ocala Public Library. The Marion County Public Library System is funded by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners.

German American Club

The German American Club of Marion County will hold a Schlachtfest dinner dance on Sunday, Nov. 5, at noon at Marion Oaks Community Center. A pork loin dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Music will be provided by Northern Sounds. Lederhosen, dirndle or dressy casual attire is requested. Apple treats part of festival fun

For those that believe the old adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” should make their way to Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saturday, Nov. 4.

The best time to be there will be from 1:30 to 4:30 for the second annual Apple Fest.

Tasty treats made from apples, along with games for children, an apple hat contest and the opportunity to make a scarecrow await visitors.

The event is free and open to the public and all are encouraged to visit us in the front lawn of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9425 N. Citrus Blvd., Citrus Springs.

Compassion and Choices

Compassion & Choices, Ocala Chapter is presenting at Master the Possibilities on Nov. 4 in Live Oak Hall from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dr Barbara Toeppen – Sprigg together with several local physicians will examine a new tool, “Diagnosis Decoder” to help hone and clarify decisions we make for our medical care. This class is free.

Mac users to meet

Ocala Macintosh User Group will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Freedom Public Library. 5870 SW 95th St. from 3-5 p.m.

Video of terminal illness

On Thursday, Nov. 9, a full length Documentary “35 Letters” is being shown in classroom 1 at Master the Possibilities, On Top of the World. The film is an inventive and deeply moving account of a 31-year-old Melbourne writer, Angelique Flowers, in the last phases of a terminal illness, as she struggles to find a peaceful way to die. This class is free.

Steve Hess & Southern Salvation

Steve Hess and Southern Salvation is one of Southern Gospel’s music’s most exciting groups. This unique trio features a great blend, outstanding voices, and music you can sing along with. When you hear the group live, you will be treated to a music filled event that is energetic, fun and spirit filled. This is a free concert; no tickets required, no admission charge. Blessing of the animals

The annual blessing of the animals will take place at Joy Lutheran Church on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. pm in the Memorial Gardens.

Pastor Arthur Wuertz will conduct the service. The public is welcome to bring their dogs, cats, horses, sheep, birds, and etc. to receive the blessing. Owners must be able to control their pets.

Spruce Creek Preserve arts. crafts

Art and Craft Fair Spruce Creek Preserve will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m. to 1 -.m. on SR 200, 3 miles west of CR 484 (gatehouse entrance).

Handel’s Messiah

Usher in the holiday spirit with Handel’s incredible Oratorio featuring live orchestra and a large community choir. Dementia caregivers workshop - free

Receive experience based answers to your caregiving questions. Learn skills, find community resources and connect with helpful people. Learn what you need to know personally, legally and financially to meet the challenges of dementia. Bring your questions and uncertainties to the Dementia Caregivers Workshop the third Tuesday of the month at Freedom Library (5870 SW 95th St., Ocala) 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Workshop and materials are free however registration is necessary as space is limited. Registration open for Ugly Sweater 5K

Registration is now under way for the fourth annual Ugly Sweater 5K and 1-Mile Fun Walk, which is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Blue Run Park at 19680 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Dunnellon.

Fees are $25 now through Friday, Dec. 1, for the 5K, and $30 the day of the race. Cost is $20 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk through the day of the event. Proceeds benefit the Dunnellon High School athletics programs.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers as well as the male and female master’s division winners (50 and older) as well as the top three placers in 10 and younger, 11 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 24, 25 to 30, 31 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74 and 75 and older.

Income Tax Assistance volunteers needed

United Way of Marion County is looking for volunteers who are interested in preparing income taxes for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. No experience necessary and free certification training is provided.

Volunteers will learn how to prepare individual tax returns, and at the same time, be helping taxpayers receive the tax credits and deductions they’re entitled to. Volunteers make a big difference. Certified volunteers will provide free income tax assistance to Marion County residents at six VITA sites located in Ocala and surrounding areas in Marion County and at the United Way office.
