Share food orders available

Share food order pick-up for Ocala West United Methodist Church will be on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at 9330 S.W. 105th St. You may also place orders for December at that time. Additional sign-up day will be on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Online ordering is available at www.shareflorida.org.

Get hands dirty at Violet Club

It’s hands-on workshop for members and guests of the African Violet Club of Ocala this month, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office substation on State Road 200.

Club “experts” will help others with some violet basics, such as putting down a leaf in new way, separating babies, potting up and repotting a difficult plant.

Supplies will be available but bringing a “mature” plant is encouraged.

Usually the club meets the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meetings are fun, informative and refreshments are served.

Society jams this weekend

The Ocala Jazz Society returns to the VFW across from Oak Run on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The group plays a lot more than jazz, featuring standards and music from past years. It’s great music, and dancing is encouraged.

The $2 donation benefits Hospice in memory of Bea Wilson, founder.

Watch, clock collectors meet

The National association of Watch and Clock Collectors will hold its fall super meeting on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 8 a.m. at the Hernando Civic Center, 3796 E. Parsons Point Road, Hernando. There will be an auction of clock and watch items donated by members, as well as the group’s famous cookie auction. Admission is $2.

Questions relating to clocks and watches will be answered by members. There will be no clock appraisals allowed.

Lions breakfast with Santa

The Ocala 200 Lions Club will have its annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Dunnellon Lions Clubhouse, 20826 S.W. Walnut St., on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Cost is $5 per adult and $3 per child. Santa and his elf will be available for pictures from 9:30 to 11 a.m., so be sure to bring your camera. Yu do not have to purchase a breakfast to have your picture taken, so mark your calendars and come join the Lions in ringing in the holiday season.

Fine art and antiques auction

The Community Outreach Program of Congregation Beth Shalom in Beverly Hills is sponsoring a "Fine Art and Antiques Auction" on Dec. 5. Preview is at 2 p.m. and the auction begins at 3. It will take place at 102 Civic Circle, Beverly Hills, in the Kellner Auditorium behind the Jewish Center. Hor D'Oeuvres, wine and cheese, and cake and coffee will be served. German American Club dinner

German American Club of Marion County Christmas Dinner Dance will be on Sunday, Dec. 5, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Marion Oaks Community Center. Music provided by

Christmas cantata at Joy

On Sunday, Dec. 5, at the 8:15 a.m. worship service and repeated on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the 11 a.m. worship service, the Joy Choir will present the works of Lloyd Larson in the “Emanuel—God With Us.” This is a composition that employs the effective medium of word and song. It blends historic carols with newer compositions along with the Bible to tell the ageless story of Christmas.

All members and visitors are invited to attend one or both of these worship services to hear the cantata.

Youth Symphony to perform

The Ocala Youth Symphony will have a free concert at West Port High School, 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5. They also will be playing with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra on Friday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m., at the downtown Square. The Ocala Youth Symphony is composed of amazing musicians ranging in age from 9 to 18. The works selected range from the Classics to Contemporary, something for everyone's musical taste. All concerts are free and open to the public. Bring a friend!

Holiday Cookie Walk set

First Congregational United Church of Christ will hold its annual Holiday Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Enrichment Center, 7171 S.W. State Road 200. Members bake and beautifully decorate their favorite holiday cookies -- the choices are endless. Decorated bags are provided and customers choose their own cookies; $3.50 dozen or $6 for two dozen.
