Corned beef, cabbage dinner set

The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 11251 S.W. State Road 484, Dunnellon (1.3 miles west of State Road 200) will have its annual corned beef and cabbage dinner on Saturday, March 20. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 6:45.

Our menu consists of corned beef, cabbage, boiled potato, carrots, bread, desserts and beverages.

The public is invited. Donations of $8 per adults and $4 for children 6 through 12, under 6 are free.

Jazz Society jams on Sunday

The Ocala Jazz Society jams on Sunday, March 21, at the VFW across from Oak Run, 2-5 p.m. Food and drinks are available at the canteen. The event features great music, dancing is encourage. Fair Tax meeting scheduled

Beauty from Within class

Beauty From Within is a free informational class on Alopecia, hair loss prevention, and cancer patients. Dr. Cherie Hansen will be our special speaker. She will be teaching on the importance of hormone balance, women’s health and how to prevent hair loss and help with alopecia. It will take place on March 24 at 6 pm. at PHR Professional Hair Inc. Three-day book sale

The spring book sale at Freedom Public Library begins when the doors open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. Sale ends at 8 p.m. on Thursday, 6 p.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Patrons may donate books for the sale by calling Kermit Clark, 352-861-0353, or Pat Babski, 352-237-8214.

Musical meditation at St. Jude

The Contemporary Music Ensemble of St. Jude will present a Lenten Musical Meditation consisting of music and scripture on Thursday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in the St. Jude Parish Hall. There is no charge. St. Jude Catholic Community is at 443 Marion Oaks Drive in Marion Oaks.

Church offers carnival

Enjoy carnival rides during the Spring Carnival at Crossroads Community Church, 8070 S.W. 60th Ave.

Carnival dates are March 25 to March 28. Hours are Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m.; Friday, 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 9 p.m.

A special comedy program by Justin Fennell is scheduled on Sunday, March 28 at 9 a.m, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Passover Seder at Elks Club

Shabbat Eve Services are held each Friday and Temple B’Nai Darom at 8 p.m., with an Oneg to follow. The first Saturday of the month, Shabbat services are at 10 a.m., with a mini-luncheon to follow.l

Fashion show, lunch at VFW

The annual Ladies Auxiliary fashion show and luncheon will take place at VFW Post 4781, 9401 S.W. 110th St., Ocala, on April 9. Doors open at 11 a.m., donation of $10, fashions by Bon Worth. Entry deadline for golf tourney

CenturyLink will host a four-person Best Ball Scramble format golf tournament on Saturday, April 17. All proceeds from the event will be donated to United Way of Marion County.

The tournament will be held at Stone Creek Golf Course, 9676 S.W. 62nd Loop in Ocala, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $280 per team. Entry deadline is April 9.

Entry fee includes golf, cart, lunch and grab bags. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. Sponsorships are available for $125 per hole without a team or $100 with a team. Presenting sponsorships are also available. Sign up forms are available at www.uwmc.org.

Harvest Meadow community yard sale

There should be something for everyone at the Harvest Meadow community yard sale on Saturday, April 17, 8 a.m to 2 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, April 24.

Come find collectibles, toys, sporting goods, tools, clothes, crafts, books and much more. Many households will be participating.

Harvest Meadow is off Southwest 60th Avenue, one mile south of State Road 200.

Taste of Ocala tickets available online

Tickets are now available online for the Central Florida Community College Foundation Taste of Ocala fundraiser, which will be April 25.

E-tickets can be purchased at www.tasteofocala.org. Advance tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for CFCC students with identification, $15 for children 5 to 12 years old. Children under age 5 are admitted free. All tickets at the gate are $30. Paper tickets will be available on March 22.

The 22nd annual scholarship fundraiser will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. Attendees will have an opportunity to sample dishes from the area’s finest restaurants as they support a worthy cause.

This year’s event is presented by Signature Brands LLC and promises to be fun for the entire family. Activities include a children’s tent with cookie decorating and clowns. There will be a silent auction and culinary arts students will demonstrate cake decorating. Diners can sit stage-side and listen to music provided by KTK-FM or socialize with friends under covered dining.

Over the past 21 years, about $325,000 has been disbursed to students through the CFCC Foundation’s Taste of Ocala scholarships.
