Sheriff’s Foundation barbecue set A barbecue dinner-dance for the benefit of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Foundation will take place on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Harvey Klein Center at CFCC.

Music will be by Sugarbear, and the event will be catered by Tip Top Catering.

Tickets are $25 per person. Doors open at 6 p.m.

November’s Holiday package will be available for $27.50 which will include 10-14-pound turkey, pumpkin pie (prebaked), 6-ounce stuffing mix, .88-ounce turkey gravy mix, 16-ounce cranberry sauce, Jeffy Buttermilk Biscuit Mix, plus assorted fresh fruits and vegetables.

Vision, hearing, diabetes screenings Hospice of Marion County Thrift stores have partnered with the Lions Clubs of Marion County to provide free vision, hearing and diabetes screenings in October. These screenings will be provided to you in the parking area outside of our stores.

Each person who has a screening will be given a thank you gift from Hospice of Marion County Thrift Stores and be eligible for a special drawing at each of the stores.

On the Corridor, the screening will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jasmine Square Thrift Store.

Hospice of Marion County Thrift Stores are located at 10325 S.E. Highway 441, (Kmart Shopping Center), Belleview; 6114 S.W. State Road 200, (Jasmine Square), and 7578 S.E. Maricamp Road, ( Heather Island Plaza) in Silver Springs Shores.

The stores are open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donations are accepted daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The net income from the Thrift Shops goes directly to patient care services. Stearns to hold town meetings U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala) will hold four town meetings on Saturday, Oct. 24, during which people can come and discuss issues of concern to them.

Meetings will be at:

Belleview, 9 to 10 a.m., City Hall, 5343 Abshier Blvd.

The Villages, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Mulberry Americana Room, 8445 S.E. 165th Mulberry Lane.

Weirsdale, 1 to 2 p.m., Equine Heritage Institute, 300 Marion County Road.

Leesburg, 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., The Venetian Community Room, 109 E. Dixie Ave. German dinner at St. Jude The annual German dinner is planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Jude Catholic Community, 443 Marion Oaks Drive in Marion Oaks.

The menu of traditional German fare will include sauerkraut, knockwurst, bratwurst, cucumber salad, applesauce and dessert.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12 and can be obtained before and after all weekend Masses or by calling Lotte at 861-2959. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Sunday, Oct. 25 Jazz Society jams for Hospice The Ocala Jazz Society jams for Hospice of Marion County this Sunday at VFW Post 4781 on Southwest 110th Street, behind Sims Furniture Store across from the light at Oak Run.

 Local musicians will entertain you from 2 to 5 p.m. for a $2 donation. Food and drinks are available at the post canteen and dancing is encouraged. For information, call Dennis at 352-746-5694.  

Tuesday, Oct. 27 International Singers to meet The International Singers is a group which enjoys singing songs in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Latin and other languages, mostly in four voices.

Anyone who can read music is welcome.

Chairman Erhard Oppenheimer presides over the business meeting every last Tuesday of the month at the Community Bank and Trust on County Road 466 in The Villages from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Singers practice every Monday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Church on the Square in The Villages.

Friday, Oct. 30 Junque Sale at United Methodist The United Methodist Men of Ocala West United Methodist Church, 9330 S.W. 105th St., will have their famous annual Junque Sale on Friday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to noon. All proceeds are donated to charity.

The United Methodist Women will have a bake sale during the Junque Sale. Saturday, Oct. 31 Sheriff’s Office hosts Halloween A Halloween Party will take place at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Southwest substation on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

There will be candy, games, prizes, refreshments, clowns, face painting, live DJ, dancing, bounce house, food, mounted patrol, SWAT/special forces unit, mobile command center,

Marion County Fire Rescue vehicles and more, with entertainment for all ages.

The event will be at the Brian Litz Building, 9048 S.W. State Road 200.
