Hispanic Dinner at St. Jude

The annual Hispanic Dinner sponsored by the Ladies Guild and Men’s Society will take place on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 5:30 p.m. Various types of Latin food will be served. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12 and will be available before and after the weekend Masses or by calling Iris at 352-307-0565. Rose Society to meet

Moose public breakfast and public bingo

A community public breakfast will continue at the Moose Lodge every Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon. Coffee, juice, omelet or any style eggs, potatoes, biscuits with gravy, toast, your choice of bacon, sausage or ham, are available, all at one great price!

West Marion Business Association to meet

The next general business meeting for the West Marion Business Association will be Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Brian Litz Substation, 9048 S.W. Highway 200, Ocala. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 27

Marion Audubon to meet

The Jan. 27 general meeting of Marion Audubon will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Ocala Police Department conference room. This venue is located just to the right as you enter the police department on Pine Avenue. The general public is invited.

TimberRidge board to meet

The Board of Directors of TimberRidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will meet on Thursday Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. in Munroe Regional Medical Center’s Administration Conference Room located at 1500 S.W. 1st Ave.

Rally for Life scheduled

The annual Rally for Life will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at the gazebo on the square in downtown Ocala.

Featured speakers will include Fr. Peter West of Priests for Life, the Rev. Richard Lineberger, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, and Theo Purington, a post-abortive father.

Sheriff's Foundation dinner-dance set

The Sheriff’s Office Foundation will hold a “Rock the Blues Away” Dinner Dance fundraiser on Jan. 29. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 and dancing to 10:30. The location for the fundraiser is at the India Association Cultural and Educational Center, 2030 N.E. 36th Ave., Ocala. Food by Brick City and music by Old Skool Band.

Tickets can be purchased from Pam Bovaird (Ext. 6758) at Operations. Cost is $25 per person. 

Car show scheduled

The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 145, will hold a car show on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Market of Marion, 12888 S.E. U.S. Hwy. 441, Belleview. Registration $20. Vendor table $60. Admission free. For more information call 352-236-3069.

Post-Polio group to meet

What is Post-Polio Syndrome? Carolyn and Jerry Raville encourage all new members and survivors to attend this special meeting on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to learn the answer to that question and what to expect from PPS. Talent show auditions scheduled

Auditions for the Circle Square Cultural Center’s second annual “The World Has Talent” 55+ talent show will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Active adults age 55+ are invited on stage where the top chosen acts will perform at “The World Has Talent” 55+ Talent Show at the Circle Square Cultural Center on Saturday, May 7. The chosen contestants will compete for a chance to win the $500 first place, $250 second place and $150 third place prizes!

Care and Share Expo at OTOW

The first Care and Share Volunteer Expo will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Circle Square Cultural Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The expo will promote one of the country’s greatest natural resources…volunteers! Greek Festival in Belleview

There will be great authentic Greek food, music, dancing, entertainment, jewelry, souvenirs and much, much more Feb. 4 and 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Feb. 6, 1 to 6 p.m. in the annual Greek Festival.

It will take place at the Fr. George Papadeas Community Center, 9926 S.E. 36th Ave., Belleview, just north of Belleview High School. Parking is free, admission donation is $1.

Book sale at main library

The Friends of the Ocala Library will hold their quarterly book sale on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Rooms B and C of the main library on Silver Springs Boulevard. Thousands of tenderly-treated books in all categories will be available to browsers, the hardback books at 50 cents, and the paperbacks at 25 cents. Proceeds from these book sales are used to support the library, so come and look for that particular book, and help the Friends in that effort. You may find a real treasure! "Food for Thought" event at Our Redeemer

At Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 5200 S.W. State Road 200, the Parish Nurses are sponsoring a “Food For Thought” event on Thursday Feb. 10, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Dr. David Willis; he will speak on “Brain Attacks, and How to Prevent Them.” The church asks attendees to call a352-368-4028 to say how many people will be attending the luncheon.

CF to celebrate homecoming on Feb. 12

The College of Central Florida will celebrate its 2011 homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

Alumni, family and friends of the college are invited to the event which kicks off at 4:30 p.m. between the CF Gymnasium and the Bryant Student Union with barbecue, live music and games for all ages. At 6 p.m. the Patriot basketball teams tip off against one of their biggest rivals Daytona State College.

This year’s homecoming is significant as the first since the college’s name change on May 25, 2010. Homecoming is sponsored by CF Alumni and the Office of Student Life. There is no charge to attend.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary fashion show

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4781 will host the annual fashion show and luncheon on Friday, Feb. 18, at noon. The theme will be Stars and Stripes Forever. The luncheon will be prepared by their chef Margie with the help of dedicated members. Many wonderful gifts have been collected. Marilyn French is the chairperson.

Saturday, Feb. 19

Hospice announces trail ride

Hospice of Marion County, Inc. will hold its 11th annual “Horses for Hospice” Trail Ride on Sat., Feb. 19, on the Central Florida Greenway at the Florida Horse Park in Ocala.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the first ride leaves at 9:15 a.m. Riders travel from as far as Jacksonville and Tampa to spend two hours on the trail. Following the ride, participants can enjoy lunch by Tommy’s BBQ, live entertainment by Bordertown and 50 door prizes will be distributed to participants.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Patient Care Programs. The minimum donation to ride is $30. Wagons are welcome; $30 for driver and $10 per passenger. Presidents and their first ladies

Master the Possibilities Education Center wants you to celebrate President’s Day on Monday, Feb. 21, with the veteran acting and writing team of husband and wife, William and Sue Wills. The Wills’ will bring to life the stories of Presidents George Washington and James Madison and their wives. They are not “impersonators”, but their costumes, dialects, and demeanors will help recreate these historical characters. Mr. and Mrs. Wills have performed at eight of the nation’s Presidential Museum and Historic Sites, - the Clinton, Bush, and Ford Presidential sites to name a few.
