Thank you, Gov. Scott 02-25-2011

-A A +A

Apparently, a minority of our state population is in favor of the high speed rail that Scott has reversed, telling the Fed to keep their money. He is wise enough to have the foreknowledge that our cost to keep this going will be astronomical, too big a burden for Florida taxpayers. If you look at the facts, public transportation rarely if ever pays its own way. Also, recent history reveals that our citizens soundly voted this down only to have the issue arise again. There are several issues, discounting the future cost, that should be addressed.

First: Who will be riding it? In the beginning we will have people riding out of curiosity if nothing else, but after the novelty wears thin, they face real problems. Parking their car, then getting transportation to and from the point of arrival.

Second: Recognizing that it only takes 90 minutes to drive a car from Ocala to Orlando, even less time from the Tampa area, why lose the convenience of having our own vehicle available, the freedom to move around to other places if we choose to do so. We love our vehicles!

Third: Has the question of property owners having to give up their homes or business even occurred to supporters, including other so called leaders? We should be concerned with individual property rights and be familiar with “Agenda 21”.

Lastly, there is no such thing as “free money” since all money Government spends is ours and adds to our ever increasing deficit. With the stroke of a pen, Scott has potentially saved us over two billion dollars. Now we will see how much outside, dirty politics come into play. Some will say, “don’t save it, give it to us.”

Again, we owe a big “thank you” to our courageous new governor.

God bless.
