Staff Report

On Jan. 7, four teens were charged with three vehicle burglaries in the county and other charges in the City of Ocala.

After the Ocala Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Jan. 6, they contacted Marion County Sheriff’s Office to alert them of a stolen checkbook, which had been found during the stop.

The checkbook, along with a briefcase containing client information and a folder, had been taken from a 2000 Honda Civic which was parked in the driveway of a Country Oaks home, according to a sheriff’s report.

Another resident on S.W. 44th Lane in Country Oaks parked her unlocked 2004 silver Volvo in her driveway. The following morning both of the driver’s side doors were found ajar and four music CDs were gone, according to a sheriff’s report. The CDs were valued at $40.

On the same day, a third Country Oaks homeowner had the center console of his 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck broken and a handicap parking card stolen. The unlocked vehicle had nothing else missing, but the console will cost approximately $200 to replace, according to a sheriff’s report.

Miguel A. Martinez-Abreu, 18, and three 17-year-old juveniles, all of Ocala, were arrested and charged with three counts of burglary of a conveyance, three counts of petty theft and one count of criminal mischief by the Sheriff’s Office. Martinez-Abreu was taken to the Marion County Jail, and the juveniles were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Smash and grab

suspect is charged

After a detective with the Sheriff’s Southwest District office sent out a bulletin to law enforcement agencies about a Kwik King robber, a detective recognized the suspect. He arrested the man on Dec. 23 in an unrelated case, the same day as the gas station robbery, according to sheriff’s reports.

When a newspaper carrier arrived at the store to deliver papers early the morning of Dec. 23, she found the glass front door of the S.R. 200 business smashed out.

A surveillance video showed a man’s unsuccessful attempt to kick in the door and his successful effort to break the glass. The man took approximately $21 in cash, eight cartons of cigarettes and approximately 84 Florida lottery tickets before he left.

Angel Maldonado, 49, of Ocala, was arrested and charged with commercial burglary and grand theft. He was already in the Marion County Jail at the time of the second arrest.

Horse trailer taken

from owner’s yard

The last time the man saw his 20-ft. Sundowner horse trailer was the afternoon of Jan. 11. The next day he discovered the $10,000 trailer was gone from the side of his Fox Run Estates home, according to a sheriff’s report.

from vacant house

When a real estate agent inspected a vacant S.W. 45th Avenue home on Jan. 3, he noticed that the black and stainless steel Whirlpool dishwasher valued at $398 was missing. The water lines had been cut, according to a sheriff’s report.
