Brian Litz honored at SR200 substation.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office held an unveiling of the newly restored statue of MCSO Deputy Brian Litz, and his K-9 companion, “Justice”, on Friday, Sept. 9 at the MCSO Southwest District Office. Litz was killed in the line of duty 12 years ago and his monument has been a fixture in the Marion County community to remember and honor him for his ultimate sacrifice.
On Feb. 7, 2004, Litz responded to a home in Ocala to conduct a well-being check on an elderly man living at a residence in the Pine Run community. Moments after he arrived, Litz was fatally shot by the elderly man at the residence. Litz was 36 years old at the time of his death.
The memorial statute is a life-size depiction of Litz and his K-9 “Justice” in bronze and is surrounded with engraved brick pavers that have been dedicated by various members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the community. The sculpture was originally revealed at the Southwest District Office on Jan. 13, 2006.
