See you at the Christmas parade, tonight

-A A +A
By Fiona Blair

Hello Readers: I’ve been going over the dates and checking them twice. I hope the chosen new date for our Christmas parade is not naughty but nice.

Friday evening, Dec. 19, we are lining up at the Oasis at 5:45. Everyone bundle up and look like Santa ...

Thanks again for your interest and involvement to help make Palm Cay the “greatest” place to live in Florida ... and merry Christmas.

Pancake Breakfast

Come to the Oasis on Saturday, Dec. 20 where the aromas of sausages and pancakes, eggs and coffee tempt the palate to sit in fellowship with other Palm Cay residents at the Pancake Breakfast.

This month Russ and Julie Hoyt will give away two Wal-Mart gift certificates. Put your name and phone number on the back of your order card if you want to be a winner.

Thank you and a very Merry Christmas to Russ and Julie Hoyt, and all the elves who help cook and serve so beautifully.

New Year’s Eve

Have you made your New Year’s plans yet? If not, the Oasis is the place to be. At 7 p.m. the doors open to the Oasis Nightclub.

You will be ushered to your personal seat and plate of complimentary hors d’oeuvres of meats, cheeses and other delicious edibles. This is a BYOB party, so bring your own favorite beverage. Glasses, ice and mixes will be furnished.

Well-known impressionist Sally Langwah will present “An Evening with the Stars” and serve as disc jockey playing music for your dancing pleasure.

Cost for the evening is $15. Please use the front entrance only.

Celebrate safely in your own back yard, be with old friends and make new ones as well. Have a wonderful evening celebrating the passing of 2008 and arrival of 2009.

Tickets are available at the Pancake Breakfast and all meetings. For information, call Nancy Solomon whose number is in the Palm Cay directory.

Gabby Hatters

The Palm Cay Gabby Hatters met at the Oasis on Dec 5. Queen Mother, Lois Barber shared some inspirational readings with us. We discussed a few future matters and Charlotte Shief gave the treasurer’s report.

Dolores Bevaqua and Arnetta MacKeever brought teddy bears to the sheriff’s district office. Capt. Jim Burton greeted them and said how great it was to receive the bears that will be given to children in crisis.

We went to Mimi’s Café for lunch. The food and the staff were exceptional. Joan Burke was the hostess for this month and she gave us all beautifully wrapped candies in festive bags.

Merry Christmas to all our Palm Cay friends, and a very happy, healthy New Year.

Christmas Show

Palm Cay “Christmas Dreams and Wishes” was the theme for this season’s show. The full meaning of Christmas touched our hearts as the Alter Egos performed under the direction of John Kalinas.

The songs brought warm emotions and thoughts of home and hearth. The beautiful voice of Angie Terrigino made us think of Kate Smith as she sang, What a Wonderful World. Charlotte Stief stole the show dressed as a little girl as she sang about a hippopotamus for Christmas.

Joyce Edgerton just wanted her two front teeth, and the Chippendolls were three bad little elves. Yvonne Stoainowski proved to be quite adept at ventriloquism.

Lu Fisher was Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Luci Seefeldt and Mary Notbusch played the Judds for Santa Claus is Coming to Town. John Kalinas, Cal Goude, Bill Notbusch, Bob Peterson and Carl Edgerton danced and sang their way through Merry Christmas Polka.

Hank Bianchi did a touching rendition of Christmas Auld Lang Syne. Julie Hoyt made us all sentimental with I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day and Joyce Deagon inspired us with Welcome to Our World. Mary was played by Jane Grames.

We would like to acknowledge the workers – lights, props, video, music, programs, bakers, helpers, tickets, etc. It takes all of them to put on a fabulous production of this magnitude.

We at Palm Cay truly wish all of you peace, joy, love and hope at Christmas and all through the New Year.

Republican Club

On Dec. 11, the Republican Club came together for a festive Christmas dinner. Jim Pettus opened the evening with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Kathy Pasqua put together a wonderful spread of goodies, hot cider, coffee and tea. Ebb Stoutner brought a cake in the shape of the U.S. flag. Kathy arranged for door prizes and winners were determined the by looking under the chairs.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Oasis.
