Ping Pong Paddlers bounce around communities

By Jan Liberio

I hope all mothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Our weather sure has been ideal for it.

I finally caught up with the Ping Pong Paddlers. They are the featured club for this week’s column. They are a friendly group of guys. Ben Medolla of Spruce Creek North is the club president. He is really one nice guy! They play every Sunday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Clubhouse. They also play at Cherrywood on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The Paddlers come from different communities. There is Carl Seale, also of Spruce Creek North. Jerry Menoli and Byron Lander are residents of Oak Run. Gill Paul is of Countryside Farms and Lenny Becker is a resident of OTOW.

They have been playing two to three years and are a very energetic group.

Call Ben Medolla for additional information. There is no charge, so maybe you can come and join the fun.

Flea Market

If you happen to go to the I-75 Flea Market do stop at the B and B Market Row H and see Alan. He has some very good buys. Tell him the gal from Spruce Creek North sent you. It is a very interesting store.

Board Meeting

The last Board of Directors meeting (which is always open to the residents) was on May 20 with Vice President Cindy Hutchins presiding in the absence of President Norm Simard. The results of this meeting will be reported in Spruce Creek North’s Newsletter.  No more meetings until September.

Ice Cream Social

The Ice Cream Social on May 2 was a huge success with almost 95 people attending. Paul Parsons was the entertainer and he did an excellent job. Many residents and non-residents got up and danced to his music. The ice cream sundaes were delicious. Cindy Hutchins and her social committee did a wonderful job with decorations and serving.

More Social News

News from Charlotte Berrent, chairperson of Spruce Creek North’s Mah Jongg bunch: Another day of Mah Jongg has been added. In addition to the regular Wednesdays, they are now playing on Fridays. Time is the same: 12:45 to 4 p.m. Anyone with a 2009 Mah Jongg card can come and play.

Bridge is still being played on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. Party Bridge is played if they don’t have enough people to play Duplicate Bridge. Everyone is invited. If there are not enough players for the summer, then Bridge will resume in the fall. Call Parnell Anderson at 854-0925.

Blast from the Past

Unfortunately, in my column on April 24, which was the Blast from the Past, the names of the ladies in the photo (with the big ship in the background) were left out. So, I want to let everyone know who they are. Left to right are Mary Hirst, Vera Edwards, Wilma Barchey, Harriet Bissen and Marvel Lamb.

Also in the same column, the names of J and J Jewelers are Jody and Jeff, not Judy and Jeff. No matter – Go there anyway. They would love to see you!

Crime Watch

Crime Watch is an important service we have in our area. This unit is composed of mostly volunteers serving our community day and night.

The chief of this service is L. B. Anderson, and Lawrence Lee is the captain of the search team. More information will be listed when they are featured in this column.

Water Exercise has started!

Water Exercise began on May 18. It will be on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9 a.m. Sorry folks, only residents are allowed in our pool.

Memorial Day Picnic

Tickets for the Memorial Day Picnic went on sale May 12 and 13. Entertainment will be by JQ and Pat. The picnic will be on May 25 at 12:30 p.m. There will be barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade potato salad, baked beans, dessert, ice tea and coffee. Cost is $6 per person. There will be 50/50 drawings and a door prize. Mark your calendar and try to come and join your neighbors.

If all goes as planned, there will be a brunch planned for August, more information on that at a later date. Thank you Cindy Hutchins for these updates.

Our well wishes go to Norm Simard.

Thank you

I want to thank Rebecca Scott. She has been so complimentary about my columns and that is such a good feeling to know that it is being enjoyed.

See you in two weeks and have a safe Memorial Day.
