Pancakes and spring made a good flap in the neighborhood

-A A +A
By Fiona Blair

We had a great turnout for the pancake breakfast on first day of spring. Not only was the new grill initiated, but a welcome to Jeff Gramling who has joined the breakfast family.

We say a fond farewell to Curt Fowler who is retiring from turning pancakes, and we thank him very much for his longtime giving of his time and talent!

A number of birthdays were celebrated including those of Russ Hoyt, Nancy Solomon, Gerry Thibodeau, Rachel Perreault, Cora Frontin, Nora Kuehn (Cora’s twin sister), Bob Patch, Vera Tracy, Margaret McLaughlin, Kandy Ludwig, Fern Bellevance, Joanne Tieman, Lisa Connolly and John Krekorian. Wow! A very happy birthday to you all!

Not only did Joanne Tieman celebrate her birthday, but she and her husband, Jack, celebrated their wedding anniversary as well!

Congratulations! This has been quite a month for you two! The winner of the Walmart gift card went to Billy Swing. Get ready for next month, it will be a doozy!

Wednesday Night Social

A huge thank you to the “Big Sun Chorus” for presenting a truly wonderful show and since it was the day after St. Patrick’s Day, the lilt of the Irish was evident! A lovely version of “Danny Boy” was sung which brought a tear to the eye. We really appreciate all the talent represented in this fine show under the direction of Ann Lord-Bellis. Refreshments were served following the performance.

Spring Dance

There was great merriment and movement at the Oasis on March 14, as the Spring Dance got under way to bring in this lovely season. We thank the Line Dancers for sponsoring this event. DJ’s Mel and Gloria provided a wonderful variety of music for those who wished to dance. Chairing the event was Carol Beaver and a big thank you to all who helped her and to everyone attending. A good time was had by all.

Alter Egos

The Alter Egos are preparing for their show “Remember When” which will be held in the Oasis on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. Let your memories come alive as favorite songs of yesteryear will have you humming along! Tickets are $2 and there will be a 50/50 drawing or win a pair of tickets to the Regal Theatre in Ocala for a movie of your choice. If you have need of information, call John Kalinas, who is directing the show, and whose phone number is listed in the Palm Cay directory.

Thrills on Wheels

Harry’s done it again! Saturday, March 28, a short car ride to Williston for the Williston Fun Fair. See the air show, classic car and motorcycles, crafts and food! Leave the Oasis at 8 a.m.

On Wednesday, April meet at the Oasis at 9 a.m. for the short ride to Dunnellon’s Rainbow Springs State Park for a kayak/canoe trip down the river escorted by a park ranger. A small fee is involved so please call Harry as soon as possible as reservations need to be made.

On April 11, bicycle with Harry and the group to the Inglis River, Trail, a short ten-mile ride. Bring along some refreshments as there will be a spot for a picnic.

Want to go on a Cruise?

Palm Cay’s very own travel agent, Ginny Chipman, is putting together a Thanksgiving Cruise from Nov. 20 to 30.

The group that went last year had such a good time that they are planning on cruising again.

So that you do not miss out, call Ginny at her office: 873-9350 for more information. Exciting destinations await as in Aruba, Curacao, a coastal city in Columbia and the Panama Canal and more. What a great way to spend Thanksgiving.

Until next time….

A friendly look, a kindly smile, one good act, and life’s worthwhile!

There is a box in the library at the Oasis for residents to place their newsy tidbits, group activity information, travels, etc. I am listed in the Palm Cay directory or e-mail to fiona-blair@hotmail. com.
