New Pretenders gearing up for another show

By Eloise Hollyfield

Entertainment, travel, bowling, and a “new” OTOW club are this week’s OTOW Happenings.

New Pretenders Troupe
The New Pretenders are gearing up for another show. “Celebrate!” is all-new and guaranteed to entertain you for two solid hours. Performances are slated for Feb. 10-11 (Friday and Saturday) at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $6 for general admission and $8 for reserved admission. Tickets are available any Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning at the Health & Recreation building from 8 to 10 a.m.
If you’re thinking “I’ve seen this before,” you couldn’t be more wrong! We never repeat selections from previous performances and this one is very diverse in its content. We are excited about our music and comedy numbers plus some outstanding costumes.

OTOW Bowling
Jerry Roney, OTOW Bowling League President, also bowls on Thursdays on another OTOW Bowling League, the Galaxy Western Stars. Joe Rosinski, one of the Galaxy Western Stars bowlers, bowled a perfect 300 game, which means he bowled 12 strikes in a row!

Travel Topper Tours
Travel Topper Tours has arranged a trip to the show “In the Mood,” a retro-1940s musical revue. The event is On Wednesday, April 18, at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. The show features a company of 19 singers and dancers.
The cost is $54 per person, and bookings are now open. Please call Kathy Peterson at 352-873-2929 for details and for registration.

New England Club
The OTOW New England Club is back! Because of the large number of people interested in this club, Donnamarie Frechette spearheaded the reorganization of the club. The first meeting was held on Dec. 15. After a time of socializing and “getting to know you” discussion, it was deemed feasible to proceed with nominations and the election of club officers. The following people were elected unanimously:
President – Donnamarie (Castellano) Frechette
Treasurer – Martha Riberdy
Secretary- Jeannie Lombardi
The position of Vice-President is still open.
The vision of the newly-elected board is to reach out to On Top of the World residents with ties to a New England state and to provide new, friendly, and enjoyable activities each month.
If you are interested in joining this club, you may contact any of the club officers or simply come to the next meeting, which will on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The meeting will take place in the Arbor Club ballroom.
