Ocala Health leadership has released details on a multi-faceted expansion project at Ocala Regional Medical Center, which will add nearly 35,000 square feet of new space and renovate 50,000 square feet of existing space. These projects represent an increase in capacity of approximately 15 percent (34 more inpatient beds).

The project will include the below expansions.

Addition of 34 inpatient beds, bringing the total to 256 inpatient beds.

Addition of 12 emergency room beds and new entrance to the emergency department, bringing the total to 32 emergency room beds.

Addition of two large operating rooms and support areas, bringing the total to 13 operating rooms.

Addition of biplane for interventional procedures.

This release comes less than two months after breaking ground on a $40M expansion project on the West Marion Community Hospital campus to include:

Addition of fourth floor tower that will include 44 more inpatient beds (36 med/surg and 8 ICU).

Addition of nine emergency room beds bringing the total to 31 beds.

Addition of two operating rooms and two shelled operating rooms to accommodate future growth.

In addition, Ocala Health has decided to add a fifth floor shell to the campus of West Marion Community Hospital to more quickly add rooms when needed in the future.

Since 2012, Ocala Health has made investments totaling more than $236M which represent the addition of 32 emergency department beds, 124 inpatient beds, and 437 jobs for our community. These expansions, along with the addition of a freestanding emergency department in Summerfield in October 2016, exemplify Ocala Health’s commitment to adding new services and more access points for residents and visitors of Marion County.

“We’re honored to bring these new services and additional beds to our area so we can provide the care our community needs,” says Chad Christianson, Ocala Health CEO. “We look forward to continuing to grow so we can better serve Marion County and surrounding communities.”

Ocala Health encompasses Ocala Regional Medical Center, a 222-bed facility in the heart of Ocala, and West Marion Community Hospital, a 94-bed hospital in west Marion County, and Summerfield ER, a freestanding emergency department located in southern Marion County.
