My all-time favorite gift

By Laura Smith

Dear readers, well the big day is almost here! As you read on you can see things are quieting down for the holiday. I remember last year telling you that my family will not let me see any boxes until the day. They claim I will shake a box, not true!
I want to tell you about my favorite gift ever. On Dec. 13, 50 years ago, Joe and I went to an agency to hear about a 7 month old boy, on the 14th we went back to see him and on the 15th we brought him home.
The moment I looked into his eyes I knew it would be the very best Christmas ever. Our daughter was 4 months old when she came into our lives. They have been the best thing ever in our lives. So you see, Christmas is more than gift wrapped boxes. It is about love, joy and peace. It is about giving in a variety of ways.
Perhaps signing up to help out in the various clubs in Oak Run that are looking for volunteers and new ideas, or reaching out to a neighbor who could use a helping hand!
The gift of giving will stay in your heart a whole lot longer than the gift in a box. The red bus will be here in January and that is a great chance to give (if you are able).
I had a great day with a Travel day trip, visiting the Stetson mansion in Deland.
We met T.J. Thompson, one of the owners and he shared that he spent 8 weeks decorating the mansion for the enjoyment of visitors. I encourage you to think about signing up for a Travel trip. Again, volunteers who give so much of their time for our enjoyment. Enjoy your last minute shopping, baking and I mean enjoy it, don’t make it a stressed out affair. Laura

R. O. Lady Niner Golf Elects Officers

December 10 was our Holiday Scramble and a mini-league meeting to announce the officers for the coming year. Carol Foltynewicz will co-president (more like shadow president) with Patty Waddell. Notice how I’m trying to slip under the radar.

(Hey, maybe next year we can elect a Customer Service Rep? Think about it.) Ilene Simnowitz, vice-president. Lisa Juhasz, secretary. Diana Schmidt, treasurer. The meeting was followed by lunch in a lovely decorated club room. BJ Lassiter sang several Christmas Carols to the delight of us all. As for the wins, Team 9A tied with Team 1B. Congrats to Sharon Hall, Sue Conner, Carol Foltynewicz, Donna Gwin, Carolee Riola, Bette Johnson and Ilene Simnowitz. Bette Johnson was closest to the pin on #3 and Ann Leonard was closest to the line on #4.
