There will be a membership meeting on Wednesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the Orchid Club. Hot dogs will be served instead of the usual coffee and cookies.

The scheduled speaker is Mary Harper, who started the local Operation Shoebox organization. The organization provides packages from our hometown to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The meeting will include a “farewell salute ceremony” to honor two members who recently passed away.

On Monday, May 25, we invited all members, spouses and residents of Oak Run to attend a Memorial Day dinner at 1:30 p.m. in the Orchid Club auditorium.

The tickets are $14 each and the entrée choices are chicken breast or roast beef; dessert is included.

Tickets will be on sale, May 15, 18, and 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Orchid Club lobby.

The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Rick Bishop, USAF retired. He flew U-2 spy planes, helicopters and was an American Airlines pilot. He will provide a slide presentation and lecture about U-2 spy planes.

This year’s Korea era veterans will be honored and thanked for their service. Korean veterans are invited to bring and display any photos, mementos, or memorabilia so that everyone attending can share your memories and thank you for serving our nation.
