Purse snatched from cart in grocery store parking lot

A suspect in a purse-snatching outside Canopy Oaks is still at large after he broke away from an attempted arrest and ran into the nearby woods.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that a woman was shopping in Publix on Sept. 22 at about 5 p.m. She had taken her groceries to her minivan and was loading them from the cart when a white male came up and snatched her purse from the front of the cart, then took off on foot;. He was stopped by a deputy, but then bolted into the woods and evaded capture.

Deputy Christine Peters investigated.

A 20-year-old woman was accused of retail petit theft after an incident at Beall’s Outlet, 8585 S.W. Highway 200. Mildred Arlene Teitloff of Northwest 21st Avenue was detained by a loss prevention official at the store after she entered a fitting room with five items, but allegedly left the room to put one back, while the other four were missing. They were reportedly found in her purse.

Deputy Jessica Shick investigated.

A car abandoned because of a flat tire and a dead battery was burglarized on Southwest 95th Street early on Sept. 26.

According to the report, the victim hit a pot hole and had a flat tire, and in an attempt to fix the tire the battery went dead, so the windows could not be raised. The vehicle was left unattended for several hours, and when the owner returned a stereo and speakers had been removed.

An Ocala man was accused of DUI after being stopped on Southwest 80th Street at 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.

Edmund William Velten IV, 46, of Southwest 53rd Street, was pulled over by officer Yobanny Valdez after Velten’s pickup truck was seen straddling the white line. After allegedly failing the field sobriety test, he was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he refused to submit a breath sample.

An Archer man was charged with DUI and no valid driver’s license after being stopped on Sept. 27 at 2:25 a.m. in the 9300 block of West State Road 40.

Julio Cesar Rodriguez, 32, was stopped for straddling the white line and swerving. After he failed the field sobriety test, he was taken to jail, where his breath content was .109 and .107.
