Two women arrested for retail theft

By Jim Clark

Two women were arrested for retail theft, one a felony, after an incident at Bealls on Feb. 7. The women entered the store, and one, April Dawn Riffel, 31, of Southeast 36th Avenue, was reportedly viewed by loss prevention officers taking several pieces of jewelry and placing them in a shopping cart. She then went to the juniors female area and took two juvenile tops.
At the same time, Katrina Renee Childers, 25, of Southeast 26th Court, was observed with several pieces of female clothing.
The two women met up with each other and began a conversation, and then went to two separate fitting rooms, according to the report.
Both came out and left the store, bypassing all cash registers.
A search of the fitting rooms found neither the jewelry nor clothes, and the women were detained in the parking lot.
Riffel was arrested for retail grand theft. Childers, who had clothes worth $106 on her person, was accused of petit retail theft.

Thefts from cars
It used to be that “creepers” were going door to door checking for unlocked cars, then entering the vehicle and taking items. But now it involves smash and grab, breaking the windows of locked cars and taking items. The incidents happened at TimberRidge Rehab Center, 9848 S.W. 110th St., and Urgent Care Center, 6600 S.W. State Road 200, on Feb. 8.

DUI charge
An Ocala man was accused of DUI after an incident on Feb. 7.
According to reports, Mathieu Vincent Mougeot, 29, of Southwest 9th Street Road, was stopped in the 7500 block of West State Road 40 after allegedly failing to stay in a single lane.
He reportedly failed the field sobriety test and was taken to jail, where his breath registered 0.177 and 0.165. The legal limit is .08.
