Convenience store robber avoids capture

An armed robbery at a Corridor convenience store about midnight Friday resulted in a suspect avoiding capture.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the clerk at the Food Mart, located at 6701 S.W. State Road 200, was accosted by the robber, who pointed a gun at her head after he jumped the counter, and threatened her as she lay on the floor. After he took the money, he left the store and the clerk called 9-1-1.

Helicopter and canine units were unsuccessful in tracking the suspect, who was still at large as of Tuesday afternoon.

In another case, a Citra man was accused of DUI and no valid driver’s license after he was stopped by deputies on West State Road 40, allegedly traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.

Manuel DeJesus Chavez, 21, was reportedly clocked at 84 mph in a 55 mph zone.

After he failed the field sobriety exercise, he was taken to the county jail, where his alcohol level as 0.146 and .0140. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.
