A Southwest Ocala man was arrested late Friday, Sept. 4, and accused of DUI and diving while license suspended or revoked.

According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, Deputy Franco Porcelli observed Paul James Dowie, 36, of Southwest 56th Avenue, driving a 1995 van traveling eastbound in about the 7000 block of State Road 200 with an inoperative left headlight. The van eventually came to a stop at Southwest 60th Avenue after changing lanes twice without using a signal, when the officer tried to make the traffic stop.

After the deputy told Dowie he was being stopped because the headlight was not working, he asked for a license and Dowie allegedly said he didn’t have one and that it was suspended for DUI.

A computer check showed DUI convictions from 1990, 1996 and 1999. In December 1999 his license was suspended for 10 years.

He was arrested and taken to the county jail, where he refused to do the field sobriety test and also refused to take a breath test, according to the report.

3 A Freon reclaimer and some tools were stolen from an air conditioning service truck parked in Sun Valley on Southwest 103rd Street Road on Sept. 5. Estimated value of the items was $1,000, according to the report filed by Deputy Milton Manchester.

3 Two commercial vehicle thefts were reported along the Corridor on Sept. 1. According to reports filed by Deputy Kimberly Bray, a U-Haul trailer was taken from a used car business in the 9000 block of State Road 200, and a backhoe and equipment trailer were taken from a lot in the 6200 block of the same road. The backhoe was valued at $42,000.
