History lesson needed
It appears the letter writer of “Outdated Amendment” is fanatically anti-Second Amendment. I don’t have a problem with him voicing his opinion about it, but I think he should have used facts. Instead he chose to use nonsense to try and make his point.
The writers question “When the Second Amendment to our Constitution was written and enacted, what was the status of, the about to become, Union?” His answer, as he states, “we were fighting the British for our freedom from the king of England. Right?” Well sir, not so. That is an erroneous answer. And in his delusion he continues on, “it was passed to allow the citizens of a new nation to bear arms against the British”. Well again, not true. This is another flawed answer. As the facts below show, the war between the 13 British Colonies in America and Great Britain had been over for eight years when the Second Amendment came into effect. But I would add, there would be good rationale, because of that conflict, fighting government tyranny, that the Second Amendment was adopted.
Research shows the American Revolutionary War was (1775-1783). It was also known as the American War of Independence. It was a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and 13 British colonies on the North American continent.
To be specific, the U.S. Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in 11 states. It then went into effect on March 4, 1789. The Bill of Rights, where the Second Amendment is found, was 10 proposals that Congress sent out to the states in 1789 for their ratification. They came into effect as Constitutional Amendments on December 15, 1791. To reiterate, that was eight years after the war.
The only document enacted during the time of the Revolutionary War against the British, which took place 1775-1783, would be our Declaration of Independence, which was adopted July 4, 1776. Nowhere within that document does it mention “allowing the citizens of a new nation to bear arms to fight against the British”.
“There is nothing more terrifying than ignorance in action.” Goethe — engraved on a plaque at the Naval War College.
Within his letter there was a mention of likely “dumb alibis to support gun ownership.” that would be coming if his letter was published. Well I think a dumb alibi, in regard to the Second Amendment being outdated, antiquated, and when it was enacted has just been exposed. But, so as not to disappoint the writer, I have included here, for him, “more dumb alibis and outcries” in favor of gun ownership.
“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government” — Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.and keystone under independence… The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.” George Washington

“The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for re-election and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.” — Justice Alex Kozinski, US 9th Circuit Court, 2003
“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin
Lincoln said “study the constitution” “Let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in the legislatures, and enforced in courts of justice.”
Now I’ve finished my NRAisms and I’m going to clean my gun.

Laws and guns
Soooo, let’s go with the recent writer’s idea for a moment, we’ll make guns unlawful.
Arrange a date where all law abiding citizens will arrive at the courthouses all over the USA and turn in their firearms ... all of them, because now it is against the law to own one. Send all the guns to the recycle center and turn them into statues.
Uh oh, now we must apply a bit of Sir Issac Newton’s law “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
Criminals never made it to the courthouse, therefore, now, they are the only ones who own weapons.
You go off to the market one day, meet up with a criminal who is intent on robbing the store. He waves his weapon about, a nearby gentleman steps up and tries to tackle him, the criminal simply shoots him, then just to show how serious his intentions are, he shoots a few more customers, thereby letting the manager know he had better cooperate. The criminal demands cash and a case of beer.
Unbeknownst to the criminal, the manager has hit a panic button to alert the police to his dilemma and sends a clerk to get the beer, while he opens the safe.
Police arrive. Criminal is now aware of the fact, so he shoots the manager and a few more customers. Criminal decides to exit the premises, grabs a bag of money and a settles for a six pack, heads for the door.
Meanwhile his partner in crime arrives with the getaway vehicle, criminal runs toward the car, police try to aprehend him, so criminal shoots the officers, after all, gun possession is unlawful.
Once the “antiquated Second Amendment” is removed from our Constitution, what freedoms will you “select” to start on next? Free Speech? There are those that bully others into suicide and other violent acts. Sooo, according to your logic, we should simply get rid of it.
Once politicians begin hacking away our rights, there will no longer be a FREE United States of America.
I suggest we follow Occam’s Razor ... leave that antiquated, brilliantly conceived and written, freedom giving document alone.
In closing...I ask the question: Do you recall why the Japanese did not carry out their “planned” invasion on American soil during WWll?

Where will the money come from?
I admit I do not know what will happen if America does go bankrupt, but it could happen soon with our borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we spend, with no end in sight. We are now over $17 trillion in debt! Too many of us believe big government is the answer to all of our problems, expecting government to keep their “freebees” coming. They applaud raising taxes on the contributors and our printing more money. Econ 101 tells us this has to stop or we will have massive inflation coupled with severe devaluing of our dollar. This will affect every individual regardless of financial status.
Somehow we now have more money to fight the hoax of manmade Global warming, and because of the action of one evil killer in a school, we believe all schools should have armed guards, fences, etc. We resist simply having the principal and a few teachers armed which would stop cowards from entering the school and not cost us billions of dollars. For example, all teachers in Israel carry guns and they don’t have this problem. I can’t recall a single incident where mass killings were committed by anyone with a concealed weapon permit. There are numerous recorded incidents where these same individuals have saved lives. Evil cowards only attack the helpless.
We are facing the implementation of Obama Care, which is estimated to cost 10 to $13,000 per individual. But don’t worry, most won’t pay that much because they will receive “government assistance.” Who do they think they are kidding? Just where do they think that money comes from? The only money they have is taxpayers’ money, and here we go again, robbing Peter to pay Paul. They just plan to take it out of both of Peter’s pockets. Our future depends on our making drastic spending cuts but nothing indicates this will happen, we just keep adding more such as the above.
If we go bankrupt, there will be no money for any government program! I invite all responses that will answer the question, What will happen to America if we go bankrupt? This isn’t about political party, it’s about our country.

Federal debt is higher than advertised

The $16+ trillion debt that you see advertised (for a good overall federal and state debt information source, go to debtclock.org) is the public debt, that is, the debt owed to bond and note holders, both within and outside the U.S.
There is another part of the debt that few people talk about, and that’s the debt incurred by the U.S. Treasury for monies borrowed from the various trust funds (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid). These borrowings are unfunded, and the only way these debts can be repaid to the trust funds would be raising taxes, borrowing more, or printing money, something the U.S. Treasury is not now and will not be in a position to do when future benefits recipients claim these funds. These vast sums owed to the taxpayer should be included in the “advertised” debt.
David M. Walker was the U.S. Comptroller General (CEO of the U.S. Government Accountability Office) for almost 11 years during three administrations, both Republican and Democrat. David expresses great concern with the government’s accounting practices in his book “Come Back America” (2010 Random House). In David’s opinion, and he ought to know, the IOU’s held by the trust funds for the amounts borrowed by the Treasury and amounts needed by the trust funds to meet its future obligations are monumental and unfunded. The U.S. Treasury estimates these unfunded liabilities at $46.1T+ as of the end of fiscal year 2011. As the nation’s past chief accountant, David feels that these unfunded Treasury debts should be included in the national debt. And so do I.
So, is the real debt really $65.5+T? You decide, but don’t forget to increase it even more if interest rates go up, which they surely will. Assault weapons

Proponents of gun enthusiasts i.e. the NRA, say they have the right to own assault weapons in case of government invasions or tyrannies, but paranoid, hypothetical scenarios cannot take precedence over the very real, very preventable deaths of children. Adding to its deadly efficiency is the large capacity magazine, a gunman can easily empty a 60-round magazine in less than 20 seconds. Sixty bullets. Twenty seconds. Those little kids and teachers at Sandy Hook didn’t have a chance.
Proponents say they have the right to own the guns for hunting, but assault rifles are designed specifically to kill people, not animals. Hunters don’t use these weapons, but every military in the world does. They would have you believe that more guns provide more chances for people to defend themselves. So should everyone be armed to the hilt in schools, churches, at social gatherings, etc? Where does this logic end? Assault weapons do not belong in civilian hands, nor do clips that contain more than 10 rounds. If you can’t defend home and family with a pistol, you won’t with a more complex weapon.
These weapons, specifically, are used in almost every mass shooting tragedy. Dangerous individuals are instantly enabled to cause devastating numbers of casualties in a matter of seconds. The desperate justifications of gun enthusiasts deteriorate more with each tragedy.
All gun sales or transfer of ownership must be handled by a registered gun dealer with the appropriate background check and waiting period. There should be no exceptions. This includes guns sold online, at a gun show, at auctions, by individuals, or even individuals within the same family. All ammo clips must be limited to 10 rounds. The increased safety for all Americans demands it.
It is way past time for reasonable people to expect a sane policy.
Anything less is an act of selfishness so profound that it is an act of immorality.

Protecting the unborn
Another hot debate, besides the one on guns, is on the unborn. Are they human and therefore must be protected?
What does God say about this?
In both Bible testaments we have unborn children, and they are ascribed human qualities. Examples:
1. Genesis 25:22-25. Rebekah is pregnant with Esau and Jacob, and they fight in her womb. Humans fight, not “piles of tissue” or “blobs of protoplasm.”
2. Job 3:3. Job begins his famous lament by saying: “May the day perish on which I was born, and the night they said ‘a male child is conceived.’” When Job was conceived, he was a “male child.”
3. Psalm 139:13-16. David describes God watching over him when he was in his mother’s womb.
4. Jeremiah 1:5. The prophet decribes how the Lord knew him before he was fully formed in the womb, and that while in the womb he was appointed to be a prophet.
5. II Samuel 11:5 and Matthew 1:18. Two women are pregnant out of wedlock, and God says they are “with child.” The Hebrew word for “child” in II Samuel is “yeled”; the Greek term in Matthew is “brephos.” Both terms in their respective testaments are used to describe both born and unborn children; God makes no difference between them.
6. In Luke 1:15, the angel tells Zacharias that his son John will be filled with the Holy Spirit “even from his mother’s womb.” Does this mean before or after John was born? And in Luke 1:41, Mary greets Elizabeth, and the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaps for joy. How far along were these women?
a. In Luke 1:36, the angel has told Mary she is about to conceive Jesus, and says that Elizabeth is six months with John.
b. After greeting Elizabeth, Mary stays with her for three months, and John is then born (vs. 56 and 57).
Assuming a normal nine-month gestation period for Elizabeth, Jesus would have to be newly-conceived, and Elizabeth six months with John. So a six-month fetus, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognizes and rejoices over a newly-conceived One.
So in the abortion debate, let’s all be on God’s side.
