Honor Flight needs your help

Next Tuesday, which coincidentally happens to be Flag Day, the next Ocala Honor Flight will take place.

World War II veterans will be flown, free to them, to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial and other attractions.

It’s a great program to honor World War II veterans from around the country. It has taken hold here with a number of vets taking advantage of the trip.

Organizers are attempting to collect enough money to fund another flight later this year. World War II vets aren’t getting any younger, and backers want to get as many of them as possible to D.C. as quickly as they are able.

But these trips do cost money, and donations are used to create the funding to take the trip, rent the plane, etc. That’s where they need your help.

Donations for the trip may be sent to the Florida Department of VFW with Ocala Honor Flight in the subject line. Those checks should be mailed to Honor Flight Marion County, c/o Florida Department of VFW, PO Box 1630, Ocala, Fla., 34478.

Those who served during this war are often called the “greatest generation.” Let’s make sure we appreciate all they have done by letting them see what has been built to honor them.
