Big Sun Chorus gets new director

By Peter Musella
Big Sun Chorus
August and the “Dog Days of Summer” are upon us. In spite of the sweltering heat, the Big Sun Chorus of Ocala is moving right along with “cool” plans for our new season of barbershop harmony.
We have undergone major changes in the last few months; Anne Lord Bellis, our music director, resigned after many years of directing and leading us through some fun-filled years.
She set a standard that will be hard to match. Members of the Big Sun Chorus wish her well. Thanks, Anne.
That is a perfect lead-in to introduce our new music director. Although not new to barbershop harmony, with a background of musical experience and quartet singing, please welcome back John Shaerer, a true professional who has taken over the reins of directing.
John directed our Big Sun Chorus in 2001-2002, and brought the chorus to competition in 2002.
John and his wife Alice enjoy living in On Top of the World. He has shown us what he can do as a leader and what he expects of us as a chorus.
I’m sure you will agree that under his discipline, guidance and enthusiasm, the Big Sun Chorus can look forward to a most successful season of barbershop harmony.
Our chorus is growing and we extend an invitation to all men (who sing in the shower) to join us on Monday evenings and United West Methodist Church on 105th Street at 6:30 p.m.
For information, please call your truly (Peter Musella) at 352-207-4546.
And remember … keep the whole world singing.
