The coldest air of the season, with widespread freezing conditions, is expected to affect much of the central portion of the state tonight and Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

An arctic cold front has moved through the area and the National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze watch and a hard freeze warning.Temperatures on Tuesday night, into Wednesday morning are expected to drop below freezing for several hours. Many locations in the area, under the warning, will see three or more hours of temperatures ranging from 28 to 31degrees.

Temperatures on Wednesday night and Thursday morning will also be expected to drop even lower for several hours. Lows on Thursday morning are expected to range from 21 to 25 degrees, away from the Gulf Coast.

A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely.

These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation - appropriate action should be taken to protect pets and water pipes.
