A grand day at the opera

Just down the road apiece, Preservist Alie Gelinas submitted the following information for inclusion in this week’s column. A group of Spruce Creek Preserve women attended a “Met High Definition Live Performance” in Gainesville recently. The Metropolitan Opera of New York City broadcasts live opera performances to selected theaters throughout the country. We are fortunate to have one of these prestigious theaters in neighboring Gainesville.

All in attendance, some ladies witnessing live opera for the first time, were enthralled by the popular opera “Orfeo Et Euridice.” Of particular interest was the delightful performance of a member of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company, Linda Gelinas, daughter of Preservists Leo and Alie Gelinas.

Dinner at Stone Creek completed a perfect day. Thanks Alie – job well done.

From Koebbe’s Kitchen

This recipe is as simple as you can get.

Grandma’s 3-Ingredient Shortbread

1/2 cup cold butter, cut into 16 pieces. Not 15, not 17, but 16.

3 cups all purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix flour and sugar, add butter pieces and mix into flour and sugar mixture real well with your hands.

Then simply press mixture into ungreased, flat 9- by 13-in. pan and bake for 60 minutes or until getting brown. Cut into squares while still warm, yum!
