Crazy Quilters have fun with charity work

-A A +A
By Jan Liberio

The Crazy Quilters are delighted to be the featured club of this week’s column. They are a small group but always interested in new people joining these Crazy ladies.

Their last project was making knee pillows for cancer patients and donating them to The Legacy House. Sandy Barsky is the chairperson and she works very hard to come up with new things to make. They have made many charity projects as well as quilted balls, star trivets and handbags. They had a visiting instructor teaching them to make a sampler quilt and machine appliqués.

They have an album they put together of all their work. The Crazy Quilters meet on Fridays from noon until 3 p.m. Residents and non-residents with new ideas are appreciated. There are no fees and they enjoy getting together every week. So if you are a new or experienced quilter …  come and join these gals.

Pancakes Tomorrow

Another pancake/French toast breakfast is tomorrow, Saturday, March 28 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Spruce Creek North Clubhouse. Norm Simard and his pancake people are ready to serve you. If you are a new Spruce Creek North resident or non-resident, please come and enjoy a nice breakfast, all for $2.50. No dishes to wash!

Bridge from Parnell

Parnell Anderson dropped me a few lines to say that their club is looking for players to play Duplicate Bridge. Everyone is welcome. They play at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays at the clubhouse. Please call Parnell for more information at 854-0925.

Bicycle Club News

Lori Littleton has sent some news from the Drifters Bicycle Club. There are many rules to follow for safe riding which will be printed at a later date. An event coming up on April 18 is the Katie Ride for Life at Amelia Island. The ride, named for a young girl whose organs were donated after she was fatally injured in an automobile accident, is used to fund money for organ transplants. More information is at www.katierideforlife.org. Thanks Lori for this news.

Board of Directors Meeting

Rosemary Suranyi spoke about the Emergency Response Systems of Central Florida when the Board of Directors met on March 18.

Cindy Hutchins, vice-president, led the meeting in place of Norm Simard, president, who was on vacation.

It was a fun meeting and Rosemary and her assistant showed all the machines that are available from meters to monitors. These meetings are for Spruce Creek North residents only and held every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Carmen Salva, a resident of Spruce Creek North, called and suggested that more of our residents be informed about Laura Kane Travel Tours. They have great trips, big and small all year long. If they have enough residents from S.C.N. the bus will pick up right at our clubhouse. Otherwise the closest pick-ups are in Cherrywood or Pine Run.

Laura Kane has some great trips coming up that might be of interest to our residents. There is a Caribbean Cruise in November, An Amish trip in September and a trip to Nashville in December. Call Laura Kane to get more information at 840-0330. Thank you Carmen!

My hubby Jim and I just celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary on March 23. Thank you all so much for all the lovely greetings! A special thank you to Charlotte Berrent!

See you in the Citizen on April 3. Enjoy this beautiful weather!

Jan Liberio resides in Spruce Creek North with her hubby, Jim. Please drop news in her mailbox at the Clubhouse or e-mail her at JnLiber@aol.com.
