Crafting things for many good causes

-A A +A
By Jan Liberio

Do I hear the sound of lawn mowers? Raking leaves? Neighbors out in their yards? Sounds like heaven to me. Bring on the blooming azaleas and nice green grass (weeds and all). Sounds of spring when our winter has been so chilly.

Spruce Creek North’s Craft Club is the featured group in this week’s column. Marlene Dorner is the chairperson and Jean Davis is the co-chairperson for these “crafty ladies.” They are always busy with so many different projects. In the past this creative group has made and donated lap blankets to patients in veterans hospitals.

They recently finished Valentine “angel dolls” made from flower pots. In between the main projects they work on baby blankets and some small items. At the present time they are busy working on wooden plaques with hand-painted snow scenes.

These crafty ladies meet on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. at the Clubhouse. Residents and non-residents are always welcome.

The club would appreciate some new ideas. Marlene and Jean are there to help you. Come join as there is no charge … just plain fun.

Bridge News

Bridge is normally played on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. but they will not be playing for a few weeks. Parnell Anderson is chairperson and any questions please drop in her mail slot at the Clubhouse. New people are always welcome and needed to keep this club going.

More from Larry

Larry Guillet, chairperson for the Billiard Boys has reported that the traveling “boys” did quite well in their tournament. They placed second overall. They travel on Tuesdays to various complexes. We all wish them well.

They play billiards Monday through Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Tip of the week

Here is a great tip for keeping bugs, mice or those little “crocodiles” out of your garage, sun porch or storage shed. Spread moth balls all along the walls. It does a great job ... but you will have to re-do this every month or so.

Moth balls spread around the perimeter of your garage and house help keep the bugs down (and hopefully away).

March Board Meeting

Remember to mark your calendar for the next Board of Directors meeting Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. They will have a guest speaker.

Be informed about your community and you never know when their will be goodies just because you show up.

Heart Month

February was Heart Month. Let’s hope you have regular check-ups.

Social Committee

Cindy Hutchins, chairperson for the Social Committee, has planned some very nice events in the coming months. First there will be a Pizza Party on Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m. You must sign up March 17 and 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. They need the sign-up to know how many pizzas to have.

There will be pizza, drinks and dessert all for $6. Music by the Sentimentals. Cindy is also planning a Fashion Show in the fall.

Human Touch

For those who have inquired about Human Touch – well it is a committee that provides five services. They loan out medical equipment, volunteer respite sitters, send get well and sympathy cards, update and deliver telephone books and welcome new residents.

Human Touch is for Spruce Creek North’s residents only. I will have more information and names of the officers when Human Touch is a featured group.

Pancake People

The Pancake Breakfast which is always good … was exceptional Feb. 28, thanks to our fantastic cooks. Attendance was very good and all seemed to enjoy a nice meeting with neighbors and friends and good food … all for $2.50.

Pancake People are always on duty the last Saturday of every month. Plan on being there March 28.

Another Thank You to Ray

Our Clubhouse has to be the cleanest one in all of Marion County. First all new paint and now our manager has stripped the floors and recoated and buffed them. Lots of work.

Please tell Ray how much you appreciate him.

That’s all, folks.

Jan Liberio resides in Spruce Creek North with her hubby, Jim. Please drop news in her mailbox at the Clubhouse or e-mail her at JnLiber@aol.com.
