Half price book sale

The Friends of the Dunnellon Public Library Book Store will have a July Half Price Book Sale at their store inside the library at 20351 Robinson Road (behind Sweetbay) for all of July. They call it the Summer Reading Extravaganza. Thanks to the great community response for donations, the Friends are able to keep their everyday low prices of $2 for hardcovers, $1 for large paperbacks and .50 for paperbacks. The Friends have committed to a landscaping project and are giving the library $2,500 per month for book endowment (new books).   

Planning Commission

The city of Dunnellon Planning Commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall on Tuesday, July 7. The agenda includes site plan approval for Bellam Medical Plaza, 11011 N. Williams St. and minor site plan revision for Superior Bank, 11392 N. Williams St.   

VFW Post 7991

Fourth of July barbecue, ribs, beans, potato salad, hot dogs, lots of fun for the entire family. Music and fun for the children. Come show your support for your service men and women and all veterans. Call the Post for more information.

TOPS in Rainbow Lakes

TOPS Chapter No. 375 in Rainbow Lakes is proud to announce the following officers for the coming year. Leader – Gail Kunkel, co-leaders – Rosemarie Hellegard and Perky Carpenter, secretary – Marge Walsh, treasurer – Mariellen Connor, weight recorders – Beth Booth and Debbie Sillane.

This local group has been supporting healthy weight loss efforts in our community for almost 30 years. Visitors are welcome to attend their first meeting free of charge. Rainbow Lakes TOPS meets weekly on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at 4030 S.W. Deepwater Court, Rainbow Lakes (from 41, west on Rainbow Lakes Blvd. 4.5 miles to Rainbow Lakes Community Center.)

Register for SHARE

Help yourself and your community. SHARE, acronym for  SHARE registration/sign-up at Peace Lutheran Church is Thursday, July 9, and Saturday, July 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. Distribution/pick-up is Saturday, July 25 through 27, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

For information on SHARE, the benefits, and the SHARE food packages offered this month, call 489-5249, or stop by the SHARE host site at Peace Lutheran Church on registration/sign-up dates or distribution/pick-up day.

Peace Lutheran Church is on U.S. Highway 41, four miles north of Dunnellon.    

Pet vaccinations

The Florida International Teaching Zoo’s veterinary staff is sponsoring a Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic in Dunnellon on Saturday, July 11, at the Tractor Supply-Dunnellon on Williams Street/Walmart from 10 to 11 a.m. 

Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be only $6.

Dog distemper/parvovirus combo shots and cat distemper shots are only $14; with dog kennel cough/bordatella shots at $15.

All vaccinations are administered by the veterinarian. Documentation for the vaccinations is provided.

All of the proceeds benefit the Teaching Zoo programs, including endangered species propagation, veterinary assistant distance learning, and elephant survival programs.

Project Homeless has special needs

The Annie W. Johnson Senior Center is requesting a Special Donation: Our Agency is in need for Bedrolls (sleeping bags), Tents, Flat Bed sheets, Comforters and Coolers. The items that are needed in my Program called Project Homeless. This program is designed to help homeless people in Citrus and Marion counties. If you are able to donate to this cause your donation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the center at 489-8021 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and ask for Christine Avina or Darlene Parker.
