Tai Chi classes offered

By John Everlove

The residents of Cherrywood have a great opportunity to increase their fitness level by taking advantage of the Tai Chi classes being offered Monday evenings at 6. Tai Chi is a soft form of martial arts that incorporates mental, spiritual, and physical aspects and integrates them into purposeful movement. There has already been a fine turn out for Cherrywood Tai Chi and the instructor (Dr. Deb Rivera) would like to remind everyone that this is not only an activity for all levels and ages, men as well as women can benefit from the conditioning and strengthening associated with this style of workout. Most of Dr. Rivera’s own Tai Chi instructors (Masters) have been males and were schooled in the practice from early boyhood. For men and women who participate in a variety of sports or fitness (such as golf, swimming, and weight training), Tai Chi is a great addendum to these types of activities and will promote better breathing, improving balance, coordination, flexibility, and stability while reducing blood pressure, pain, and stress.
Cherrywood residents are reminded that those who have limited mobility and do not want to do a standing Tai can still participate in chair Tai Chi and that any movement can be modified to the individual. Do your body and mind a favor, come to Tai Chi!
