Bald is beautiful at the Oasis

-A A +A
By Fiona Blair

Hello Readers: Let us hope that you feel warmer now. Wow … that was a bit of a cold spell!

From the conversations going around Palm Cay, Crystal Gage’s performance was simply outstanding. She sought out gentlemen in the audience endowed with but little “hair on top” of their heads, and crooned a ballad all the while stroking their heads. The audience loved it and laughter reigned. See, gentlemen, bald is beautiful.

Crystal comes from Ontario, Canada and has performed throughout the United States. We were very fortunate to have such a gifted young lady entertain us, and we thank Jim Powell and Nancy Brenner for bringing her to us.

Her mother travels as her “sound man.” And a couple of glitches offered Crystal the opportunity to joke with her mom, and both the audience and her mother loved it.

Potluck and

Super Bowl

A reminder that the Potluck Social is tomorrow, Jan. 31. Sausage and peppers are the order for the $1 meat dish. A great way to end the first month of the New Year.

Then for you sports fans, Feb. 1 is your day – Super Bowl Sunday. The big screen awaits your presence at the Oasis. Bring your beverages and snacks and have a lot of fun.

Wednesday Night Social

It is almost time for the Wednesday Night Social on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. Grab your best pal and gather at the Oasis for fun and fellowship. Tempt your palette … chocolate, strawberry, rocky road, butter pecan, oh joy!

The Flamingos Hop

The Flamingo Club will be rocking At the Hop to the unforgettable songs of the ‘50s. This will be their fifth spring show for Palm Cay. The show is set to take center stage March 7, at 7 p.m. in the Oasis.

Tickets go on sale Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2 and 3, and Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 9 and 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets will also be available at the PCHA meeting, and at the Pancake Breakfast 8 to 10 a.m.

So gals have your poodle skirts and saddle shoes ready. Check out the guys in their jeans and ducktails(?). Come on down and let’s rock and roll. Hear the fabulous songs that we loved to sing and dance to in our youth.

Spring Dance

Spring is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a Spring Dance, sponsored by the Palm Cay Line Dancers. So, put March 14 on your calendar, from 7 to 11 p.m. Music will be by Gloria and Mel.

Cost is $5 per person. Ticket sales are Feb. 23 and 24, and March 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the clubhouse.

There will be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. This is a BYOB and BYOS. This dance is open to Palm Cay residents and their overnight guests. For more information, call Carol Beaver at 861-6434.

Blood Drive

We had a nice turnout of 21 residents who braved the cold for the Blood Drive on Jan. 21. Thank you so much to all. The Big Red Bus will visit us again March 18.

We would like to welcome newcomers to the Palm Cay family this month, also anyone who celebrated a birthday or anniversary that was not named last week.

We have much to offer in Palm Cay. A list of activities and social events is available at the clubhouse, so don’t miss out. Check out the Video Club on Saturday mornings from 10 to noon.

Many new DVDs are available as well as a great selection of VHS movies. Nothing like curling up on the couch on a cold winter evening watching a good movie!

You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him.

Until next time …

There is box in the library at the Oasis for residents to place their newsy tidbits, group activity information, travels, etc. Fiona Blair is listed in the Palm Cay directory or e-mail to fiona-blair@hotmail.com.
