  • Don’t the greedy killers...

    Does a week go by that we’re not requested to sign a petition to save some animal species or requested to donate towards some great animal cause like the whales, the great apes, the Pacific salmon, the wolves, the polar bears, etcetera, etcetera and so forth?

    All of these causes are very worthwhile, but in our zeal to make sure that everything is protected, we’ve forgotten one thing — us. Who is penning the petition or asking for money to save people? (Not including specific diseases.)

    Count them. There are 365 days in a year. Every four years we get another day for good measure. Each day has 24 hours. Each hour is made up of 60 minutes. Day in and day out, we all have 1,440 minutes a day to call our own, to do with them what we want to do – well sort of.

    Getting some shut-eye is always essential. So we lay down our little heads to sleep. A good night’s sleep takes eight hours, so say medical experts, scientists and moms.

    Anyone who can write a tender, haunting song about a rat is someone special. But why is there this need to lay bare the personal side of his life in conjunction with its quirks?

    Stimulus funds pave way for road...

    While there were more than 300 people interested in learning more about the name for a new county park, some others wanted to know what other activities for older youngsters could be added to the existing Liberty Community Park.

    During the Monday afternoon State Road 200 Coalition Meeting, resident Mary Morgan asked why additional facilities, such as baseball diamonds or basketball courts, have not been added at Liberty Park, on 103 Street.

    “Older kids need to have somewhere to gather without getting into trouble,” she said.

    A big battle is pending and from inquires made, very few people are aware of the “Fairness Doctrine” and what it means and controls, etc. So a little history, a short version will be helpful to all. As you will see, it’s a government-mandated speech and restriction on what you can listen to.

    As Marion County residents enjoy summer activities, the Marion County Health Department is urging the community to be watchful of children taking part in water recreation.

    “Unintentional drowning is one of the leading causes of death for small children,” said Carol Jubelirer, Marion County Health Department executive nurse director. “It takes as little as two inches of water for a child to drown, so adults should keep close supervision on children while they are in or around the water.”

    The beleaguered, oppressed Colonists stood up to the tyrant and said: “Enough is enough!” Remember the Tea Party? They are happening all over again today.

    When was the last time you actually read America’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence? Did you grasp the seriousness of the charges? Did you understand that this document tells us precisely why America was birthed?

    We learned, by way of Rush Limbaugh, that Mark Sanford’s sex scandal was President Obama’s fault. If it weren’t for the administration’s economic policies, the argument goes, Sanford would have been more optimistic about the future, wouldn’t have cheated on his wife, and wouldn’t have secretly left the country to see his mistress. Who can argue with airtight logic like this?

    The new and improved site provides parents with useful information to help them teach their teens to become safe drivers.

    One observance that took place last Sunday passed with very little fanfare. Of course it was Flag Day and the merciful end to the marathon NBA season, but it was also a day for some very local heroes.

    Sunday, June 14, 2009 was the celebration of World Blood Donor Day and the heroes who save lives every day. Millions of people owe their lives to people they will never meet — people who donate their blood freely and without any reward.

    Among them a congressman and the  head of the RNC, Mr. Steel to be precise, the former Maryland State official who  seemed to be unable to decide whether he was a democrat or a republican on his  first run for public office.
