The history of College Road Baptist Church in Ocala is also an account of almost all John Downing’s pastoral career. The church will honor him this Sunday, Aug. 26, his 30th anniversary and the date of his retirement.

  • Whenever I am out in public, I try conducting myself with the greatest of care knowing that people are watching. The thing that bothers me the most is that many people have never mastered the fine art of how to dress in public.
Some people have never been taught how to dress, let alone how to dress in public. Whenever I go to the mall, and believe me it is as seldom as possible, I cannot help noticing some of these people.

For the past 19 years, Curry Andrews of Fairfield Village has walked the yearly fund-raising course for what has been his favorite charity, The March of Dimes.
This year will be no different except that Curry will be one year older as he completes the six-mile course for what is being called the March for Babies.
As was the case last year, the event will be held on Saturday, April 28, at Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway at 4255 S.E. 58th Ave. Registration is at 7 a.m. with the walk/run to begin at 8 a.m.

Things were really “hopping” on Saturday, April 7 when Joy Evangelical Lutheran Church held its first annual Easter Egg Hunt.  This event was attended by about 70 children, mainly from the Upward Soccer league and their siblings.
The Easter Bunny hid 500 plastic eggs filled with goodies around the church building and soccer fields.  Pastor Edward Holloway, Jr. hid a special “golden egg” containing a nice monetary prize.  There was a very happy winner of this golden egg.
