  • Long before Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Blue Cross, Jews have been caring for their sick in compassionate hospital settings. As was the case before public hospitals came into existence, most hospital care was under the auspices of religious groups. For Jews, this posed the problem of the obtaining of kosher food as well as the discrimination practices against Jewish doctors. To this effect, Jewish hospitals were set up in major cities to alleviate these problems.

Under normal circumstances, I am a rather cool, calm and collected person. I say normal because not everything in my life is normal.  It takes a lot to rattle this cage of mine but once rattled, look out whoever rattles it.
I am saying all this to get to my point, which is, somebody hacked my computer e-mail account this past week. If you think I will take this sitting down, oh, I guess I am sitting down right now, but I assure you I will not stand for something like this. I have never been so rattled in my life.

We use many expressions that are really slang; consider the meanings of party animal, paper pushers, goofed up, and kickback. Before that, 23 skidoo” was a slang phrase popularized during the early twentieth century. Today’s Pun Alley goes back even further to look at the peculiarities of English.

One of the most beautiful and meaningful ritual objects in Judaism, is, in my opinion, the tallit or prayer shawl. This biblically mandated item has for centuries characterized the Jew by its distinctive design and has served as a powerful spiritual symbol of God’s protection.

I am the kind of person who likes to do business with cash on the barrelhead. I do not like credit because it has a way of biting you in the end. When you have a credit card, there are fees to beat the band. I do have a credit card but I have it hidden so well that I have not been able to find it for seven weeks. I just do not like using it.
