    Christmas Time is here again and its time to share your favorite Christmas cookies. Spruce Creek North annual “cookie swap” will take place, Sunday Dec. 10 beginning at 2 pm. at the Clubhouse.
    How does this work? You bring a dozen or so of your favorite homemade  Christmas cookies and then take home a dozen or so of your neighbors homemade cookies.  It has been proven to be quite fun, sharing family traditional Christmas cookie recipes.

  • Black Friday leads to red Monday

    I’m not sure who come up with this term “Black Friday” but I am definitely not for it. To me, Black Friday is rather devious and I know the only purpose is to get their teeth into my money, which is a sacred area to me.
    When it comes to shopping, I certainly am not a fan. I really do not like shopping. I get nervous when I’m in the shopping mall, start sweating and have to leave and sit in my car for at least half an hour to regain composure.

  • Chewy.com to hold Ocala hiring event next Wednesday

    Career seekers with dogged determination may find working for Chewy.com is tail-waggin’ good – or purrfect, as the case may be.
    The pet supply e-retailer, now owned by PetSmart, is seeking to add “Chewtopians” to its “Wow Team” as it prepares to open the new Ocala Fulfillment Center.
    In partnership with CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion, Chewy.com will hold a hiring event for warehouse and fulfillment center associates (also known as “agents of awesome”).

  • McCall to head School Board

    Beth McCall, the newest member of the Marion County School Board, now serves as the board chair for the next year. Board members unanimously elected her to the post.

    Electing a vice chair, however, proved to be more difficult. Board members tied when it came to whether Angie Boynton or Kelly King should sit in the number two spot. The vice-chair tie was prompted by Board Member Nancy Stacy’s absence from  annual reorganization meeting.

  • Art Walk is Friday

    The First Friday Art Walk returns to downtown Ocala Friday, Dec. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include the following special performances and activities:

    • 6 to 9 p.m. – Live music by Macey Mac on the main event stage located at the downtown square near the gazebo. Macey is a 13-year-old artist who channels a unique combination of LeeAnn Rimes, Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin.

    • 7 and 8 p.m. – Enjoy modern fusion and gypsy-style belly dancing with swords, hula hoops, fire props and fire breathing by Belly Artist Dance Studio.

  • Light Up Ocala to brighten downtown

    Light Up Ocala returns to downtown Ocala Saturday, Nov. 18 from 4 to 9 p.m.

    This year’s event will feature four stages throughout the downtown area with entertainment and more than 100 vendors the whole family will enjoy. Entertainment will include live music, dance, food, crafts, and of course, the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at approximately 6:30 p.m.
