    Twenty million people are enslaved throughout the world with 2.5 million located here in the United States. Slavery was supposed to end with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862 and the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865. However statistics show that slavery is still alive and flourishing through the entire world.

    Who are these victims of human trafficking? Can you recognize them among the people you see each day? Probably not! Some would say that they are probably foreigners or poor people. However the experts say that Human Trafficking victims can be of any age, race, gender, nationality, and come from any socio-economic group.

  • Ocala Kmart to close

    Sears Holding announced Thursday that Kmart stores in Ocala, Belleview (both in Marion County, and Clermont in Lake County will close in the next few months. Employees were notified Thursday.

    Sears in Ocala was not on the list.

    Earlier in the day, Macy's Inc. said the store at The Oaks Mall in Gainesville will close down. Macy's in Ocala was not affected.

    Christmas Time is here again and its time to share your favorite Christmas cookies. Spruce Creek North annual “cookie swap” will take place, Sunday Dec. 10 beginning at 2 pm. at the Clubhouse.
    How does this work? You bring a dozen or so of your favorite homemade  Christmas cookies and then take home a dozen or so of your neighbors homemade cookies.  It has been proven to be quite fun, sharing family traditional Christmas cookie recipes.

  • Black Friday leads to red Monday

    I’m not sure who come up with this term “Black Friday” but I am definitely not for it. To me, Black Friday is rather devious and I know the only purpose is to get their teeth into my money, which is a sacred area to me.
    When it comes to shopping, I certainly am not a fan. I really do not like shopping. I get nervous when I’m in the shopping mall, start sweating and have to leave and sit in my car for at least half an hour to regain composure.
