  • OTOW robbed three times in four days

    Two heavy metal benches valued at $1,000 each were among the items stolen from outside the Circle Square Commons in the On Top of the World communities on March 5. According to a sheriff’s report, the items were taken around 11 p.m.

    Also taken were a black metal patio table valued at $1,000, four matching chairs worth $1,200, and an umbrella stand valued at $150 was stolen from outside Sid’s Coffee Shop, according to a sheriff’s report.

  • Impala was hard to follow

    On Feb. 12 a Corridor woman reported her ex-boyfriend came to pick up the rest of his belongings from her S.W. 59th Street home and also took her 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The following day the car was found parked in the driveway of a house on S.E. Maricamp Road. A witness at the home told a sheriff’s deputy the man had left the vehicle there and had been dropped off in Ocklawaha, according to a sheriff’s report.

  • Chinese restaurant in Corridor burglarized

    On Friday morning, Feb. 6, an employee at Canopy Oaks Publix called the Sheriff’s Office, after noticing the front door of the China Star restaurant had been smashed in, according to a sheriff’s report.

    At first glance it looked as though nothing was missing, but when the owner arrived she determined that $50 in bills and $600 in rolled coins had been taken from a cash drawer.

  • A rash of Corridor auto burglaries

    More than a dozen vehicles throughout the Corridor were burglarized and some robbed the weekend of Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. All of the vehicles were left unlocked. A camera, Nintendo DS and a MP3 player were electronic devices stolen, but no item was more popular than the Garmin GPS system.

    A Bent Tree homeowner parked his 2001 tan Chevrolet truck in the driveway of his S.W. 81st Place home on Jan. 30, at approximately 4 pm.

  • Update on keyless entry signal theft

    I was informed after my last article that criminals having begun using some sort of cloning device to capture the remote locking device signal for cars and trucks was outdated information. It seems that auto makers have improved remote locking signal security since the mid 1990s, rendering them extremely difficult to capture.

    The information for the column Feb. 6 was obtained from a reliable source but again was outdated. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. I was trying to keep everyone informed about criminal activity I am alerted of.

  • A S.R. 200 road shopping spree

    When a loss prevention officer at Bealls department store first noticed four women in the parking lot on Jan. 27, they were emptying several handbags into the trunk of a white Lincoln. He watched as the shoppers came into the store separately and walked around carrying handbags that appeared to be empty, according to a sheriff’s report.

    Some of the women went into a fitting room and their bags appeared to be full when they came ou. Empty hangers were also found in the dressing room but the shoppers managed to pass checkout points and left the store.

  • Teens linked to Corridor car burglaries

    Staff Report

    On Jan. 7, four teens were charged with three vehicle burglaries in the county and other charges in the City of Ocala.

    After the Ocala Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Jan. 6, they contacted Marion County Sheriff’s Office to alert them of a stolen checkbook, which had been found during the stop.

    The checkbook, along with a briefcase containing client information and a folder, had been taken from a 2000 Honda Civic which was parked in the driveway of a Country Oaks home, according to a sheriff’s report.

  • William ‘Bill’ Joseph Bulmer, 81,

    of Palm Cay

    William “Bill” Joseph Bulmer, 81, of Palm Cay, died Jan. 20, 2009 at Hospice Legacy House. He was born in New Haven, Conn., and came here 18 years ago from Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1990.

    Mr. Bulmer was a commercial painter in the construction industry. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was Protestant. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed shuffleboard, horseshoes, bocce and games of chance.

  • Attempted robbery at Murphy store

    When an employee at the Murphy gas station near the Wal-Mart Supercenter walked out of the store to use the restroom the afternoon of Dec. 20, a man came up behind her, wrapped one arm around her body and the other around her mouth, hard enough to break a couple of her front teeth, according to a sheriff’s report. The robber then pulled out what appeared to be a Taser gun and guided her to the cash register inside the store.

  • Nettie Jane Davis,

    71, of Ocala

    Nettie Jane Davis, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at Hospice Legacy House in Ocala. She was born in Wilmore, Ky. and moved to Ocala in 1963 from Lexington, Ky. She was a homemaker.

    She is survived by Travis, her husband of 50 years; son, Travis M. Davis Jr.; daughters, Kathy Davis, Roxanna Simpson, Wanda Robinson, Roetta Coller, and Theresa Vega all of Ocala; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
