  • Cop Shop: turck, gun and other items stolen

    While working on his 1996 Ford truck at his S.R. 200 home, an elderly man decided to take a break and go inside for a drink. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 8, he fell asleep and later awoke to discover he had been burglarized.

    The white truck was gone, along with a chrome-colored Browning automatic gun, a toolbox, two cameras, and other items, which were all inside the vehicle.

  • Driver arrested after crash

    On May 31, a sheriff’s deputy went to a single-vehicle accident on S.W. 38th Street and S.W. 51 Terrace. When he arrived, he saw a 2004 Ford on the shoulder of the road, parked at a 90-degree angle with the engine still running, according to a sheriff’s report.

    The driver, Manuel Eugene Turner, 55, of Ocala, was still behind the wheel, he smelled of alcohol and had “glossy” eyes, the arrest report said. The deputy had to help the man out and assist him in walking to a level part of the road.

  • MCSO employee charged with organized fraud

    On May 31, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corrections assistant was arrested and charged with organized fraud and grand theft from a person over 65.

    Deputies arrested Sharon Wagoner, 54, of 6518 S.W. 62nd Ave. on the charges.

    A woman called the sheriff’s office to report that her 89-year-old stepfather had been exploited for a large amount of money, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

    The stepdaughter claimed he had $40,000 in his bank account in 2007 and now the current balance was $9,000, according to the report.

  • Police Report - May 21, 2009

    Man reportedly batters

    On May 13, a witness called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a battery on S.R. 200. The man reported the driver and passenger appeared to be fighting over an object. The witness reported that he saw the man put the woman in a headlock and slapped her head several times, according to a sheriff’s report.

  • Man does not slow down in checkpoint

    On April 30, a black BMW drove into a DUI checkpoint on S.W. 60th Avenue and did not slow down. After several deputies yelled for the driver to halt, he finally did, according to a sheriff’s report.

    A deputy asked the man to roll down his window; instead he rolled it back up. He pressed the button again and the window came down. The driver was asked for his license, which took more than three minutes for him to find even though the deputy could clearly see it in the wallet, according to a sheriff’s report.

  • Sun Valley home burglarized

    On April 23, a woman returned to her S.W. 38th Avenue home and discovered a Playstation II, Playstation portable gaming system and several games were missing from her son’s bedroom, according to a sheriff’s report.

    After speaking with her son, the woman learned that one of the controllers to the gaming system had been unplugged and was left behind. Also, the suspect failed to take any wires to the system or the power source. The teen’s IPOD touch was also reported missing. The total amount of the loss was more than $900.

    A commercial armed robbery was reported at the Hungry Howies on S.W. 93rd Court Road on April 19.

    Purse vanishes

    On April 21, a woman had her purse taken from the Church of Jesus Christ on S.R. 200. At approximately 8:30 p.m., she was helping to clean up and sat her purse down for about five minutes, according to a sheriff’s report.

    Patient goes on carjacking

    A distraught patient at The Centers, 5664 S.W. 60th Ave., pushed her way past an employee and out the door and into the street about 7:15 p.m. April 1. She then ran in front of a car driven by an employee of The Centers, opened the driver’s unlocked door and pulled the driver out of her car, according to a sheriff’s report.

    Two charged

    with theft at Bealls

    On April 5, a loss prevention employee at the Bealls department store noticed two customers hide merchandise and leave the store without paying, according to a sheriff’s report.

    They were stopped in the parking lot and taken into the loss prevention office. Both customers were found with a pair of shorts and a shirt, which were valued at approximately $150.

    A black Nissan was searched and a pair of shorts, T-shirt and bikini valued at $55 from the Bealls Outlet store on S.R. 200 was found inside.

    On March 19, a red Taylor-Made R7, valued at $315, was stolen from the Candler Hills golf shop in On Top of the World.

    North Carolina woman

    arrested at Beall’s

    On March 23, a loss prevention employee at Beall’s spotted a shopper taking several pieces of jewelry and not paying for them.

    Sandra Celina Diaz Gonzalez, 28, of Raleigh, N. C., was arrested and charged with petty retail theft. She was given a notice to appear in court.

    The jewelry was valued at $130.
