    The musical Mary Poppins is live on stage to open the 2015-2016 season at Ocala Civic Theatre from Sept. 3 – Oct. 4.
    There’s only one word to describe it: “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!” When the east wind blows magical and mysterious Mary Poppins (Angie Petty) into London, everyone is in for a jolly holiday. Her old friend, cheerful jack-of-all-trades Bert (Gregg Bleam), introduces us to the Banks family of 17 Cherry Tree Lane... a household in dire need of “the perfect nanny.”

  • Sales tax holiday starts Friday

    Florida’s 2015 back-to-school sales tax holiday begins Friday, Aug. 7 and lasts through Aug. 16.
    During this holiday period, Florida law directs that no sales tax or local option tax (also known as discretionary sales surtax) will be collected on purchases of:
    • Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $100 or less per item,
    • Certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item, and

  • Interim county administrator resigns

    Interim Marion County Administrator Bill Kauffman is heading in a new direction. On Friday, July 17, Kauffman announced his intention to resign, effective by Aug. 15, 2015. He will be joining the City of Ocala in the role of assistant city manager.

  • Reilly Arts Center tickets available

    Tickets are now on sale for “Opening Night at the Reilly Arts Center” the one-night-only, inaugural concert in the renovated city auditorium.  The performance takes place on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Reilly Arts Center, 836 NE Sanchez Ave. Tickets range from $35 to $75 and can be purchased online at www.ocalasymphony.com or by calling the office at 352-351-1606.

    Marion Civic Chorale welcomes its new director, Dr. John Guarente, and its new accompanist, Vicky Juliano.

    For 28 years the dedicated musicians of The Marion Civic Chorale have brought to Marion County a wide repertoire of classical and popular music. It is time now to welcome new director, Dr. John Guarente, to lead, and new accompanist, Vicky Juliano, to accompany, the group in its musical endeavors.
