August is the month we old-timers look forward to. On Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Orchid Club auditorium the veterans will hold their annual ice cream social. We will bring back the good old days with floats like we used to get at the soda fountains of the 50’s. So come one and all and enjoy an evening of just good old times. We will have a raffle to raise money for the Oct. 27 Honor Flight. So far we have three of our veterans signed on. Funds are still needed for this flight.

It looks like the “heat” is on. Guess we should enjoy it and think of the cold, snowy winters up North. Just remember to do as much as you can early in the morning. Even the swimming pool feels “heated.”

The famous "Rat Pack" is never hipper or funnier than in this, the ultimate Las Vegas movie -- quoted, copied and paid homage to in every movie since. It stars Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Earlier this month Showcase of Stars presented an all male program. Turn about is fair play, so on Saturday, Aug. 6, there will be an all ladies’ singing night at 7 p.m. at Palm Grove. Sorry, no baritones. Admission is free, plus there will be door prizes and 50/50. Come and listen to some talented Oak Runners. You won’t be sorry.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce a cast change for our upcoming play, “In St. Louis at the Fair.” Peggy Studer who was to take the part of Hazel has sold her home of many years here in Oak Run and is returning to join friends and family in Pennsylvania. We are currently auditioning other members for the part.
