    The bloodmobile from Florida’s Blood Centers will be in the parking lot of Palm Grove on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Florida’s Blood Centers are the only providers of blood for all Marion County medical facilities, including all three hospitals. Donors will receive a free movie voucher and a free bowling coupon. You can donate if you have high blood pressure, are diabetic, have been cancer free for one year. There is no upper age limit and most medications and conditions do not prevent you from donating.

    The Annual Health Fair will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Palm Grove. Many professionals will be on hand to answer your questions and various screenings and tests will be available, including hearing and blood pressure. No appointments are necessary to come and browse and speak with the many physicians and health care representatives participating.

    Visiting Angels will hold free confidential memory screenings as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) to promote proper detection of memory problems. The screenings will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the OTOW Circle Square Commons area in the Visiting Angels establishment, located at 8405 S.W. 80th St., Suite 14.

    Cherrywood Estates will have a Saturday AARP driver safety class for working people Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

    OK, Cherrywood grandmas and grandpas, the Cherrywood Angel Tree will be up and decorated with the names of needy children in Marion County by the end of the first week in November.

    I was sitting out in our lanai thinking “where has this year gone?” It seems like just yesterday when our Palm Cay crafters rode by throwing beads and candy to celebrate ‘Marti Gras’ in one of our fabulous parades.
    Then came the summer festivities… the picnics… and more celebrations as we honored the birthday of America and paid tribute to those that made our wonderful country free.

    Now I never complain (well almost never) about the hot summers, but I have to say these summers have pushed us all to the limit! Let’s hope Mother Nature is kind to us with the upcoming winter. It has been a strange weather season! All parts of the USA have suffered in one way or another.
