  • It’s the same old question akin to the proverbial: “What came first, the chicken or the egg”? When one of my readers in Citrus County posed it to me, I thought it would make for a provocative column. So here it is, the question everybody loves to ask: Are Jews a people or a religion?
    The answer, my dear Watson, is not so elementary. There are many factors at play here and of course with two Jews you get three opinions but from my humble point of view of a liberal Jewish woman living in the State of Florida, I wish to offer the following.

  • I have been going to church for more years than I care to remember. If I tried to remember how many years it is, I might then remember how old I am. Knowing how old I am does not have any appeal to me.
    I rather like going to church. I do not go to church because I have to. I go to church because it is a wonderful place and it is filled with wonderful people. Are there hypocrites in the church? Yes, a whole lot more.

    Palm Cay garage sale

    The Palm Cay Community on State Road 200 will be holding its community wide garage sales on March 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are invited.
    Upon entering the community, visitors will receive a map of the community showing residents who are hosting a sale.
    Visitors can also enjoy a hot dog luncheon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clubhouse along with coffee and breakfast rolls from 8 to 10 a.m.

    Temple’s rummage sale

    Temple B’nai Darom, 49 Banyan Course, Ocala is holding a rummage sale on Friday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items for sale will include clothing, household items, bric a brac, games, etc. Clothing and books will be sold by the bagfull at bargain prices.

  • Helping Hands of Ocala has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from Winn Dixie’s Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation.
    “We are very grateful for this generous donation as it is a big boost in helping us rebuild the lives of homeless people”, said Brad Dinkins, Chairman of Helping Hands. He further commented, “This is the largest grant we have ever received from the food industry”.
