  • Couple married 75 years

    Gerard and Georgeina Abrahams celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Their church, Joy Lutheran, honored them with a luncheon on Sunday, April 27, following worship service in Swenson Hall. They were married, in New York, in 1939, when he was 22 years old and she was 19 years old. Their secret to a long marriage is all about communication and a sense of humor.

  • 66th anniversary

    John and Mary Miks of Deer Creek will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary on Jan. 28. They married in Detroit and have lived in this area since 1986. He worked in a factory in Detroit and she in a laundry, and both in a nursing home. They have two children, Larry of Detroit and Linda Morrell of Ocala; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

  • Five generations

    Mary McAlister of Emeritus West is one of the five generations shown. She moved to Florida in 1921 when she was 2 years old, and is the author of a book of family history called “Coosa County Girl. She was born in Alabama. Shown in the photos are second generation Judy McAlister; third generation Sar Lee, on right, standing in for Michelle Graves, granddaughter; fourth generation, Lori Graves, great granddaughter on left; and fifth generation, Orion, Lori’s baby.

  • Kinsman, Aguilar to wed

    Patricia Kinsman of Ocala and Raymond Aguilar of Ocala have announced their engagement. They will be wed on April 14, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at Black Diamond Ranch Golf and Country Club. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mary Kinsman of Ocala and Raleigh Kinsman of Dade City. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Ramon and Sandra Aguilar of Okeechobee.

  • 64th anniversary

    Mary and John Miks of Deer Creek are celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary today, Jan. 28. They were married in Detroit, but have lived in this area for 24 years. He worked in a factory in Detroit and she was in housekeeping and worked in a nursing home. They have two children, Larry of Detroit and Linda Morrell of Ocala; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Both are charter members of the Moose Lodge.

  • Beattie Anniversary

    Jim and Iris Beattie of On Top of the World celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 22. The couple met as teenagers in their hometown, Glasgow, Scotland. They soon moved to England where they lived in Kent for 20 years before emigrating to South Florida in 1975. They retired to Ocala in 2002. They have five children, four in the U.S. and one in the UK; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two more on the way."
