    Shabbat evening service set

    Congregation Beth Israel of Ocala will hold a Shabbat evening service on July 9 at 8 p.m. at the Collins Medical Resource Center, 9401 State Road 200, Building 300 in Ocala. The service will be led by Arthur Grae of Leesburg, who will be ordained as a rabbi on July 1. The service has special meaning since it will be Grae’s first Shabbat service as a rabbi. His sermon will be “Bringing Jews Back to Judaism.” All are warmly invited to attend.

    The chess club that formed at the Freedom Public Library meets the first Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grab your board and chess pieces and come on down.

    United Way of Marion County will hold the third annual “Day of Action” on Saturday, June 19, 2010. This year’s event will focus on helping Marion County families improve their financial situation through budgeting and saving money.

    The Southwest Ocala Lions Club will conduct a garage sale to benefit the Marion County Humane Society on June 4 and 5 at 7325 S.W. 106th St. in Kings Court. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

    Masonic High Twelve Club to meet

    The Greater Ocala Masonic High Twelve Club 665 will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday May 28, at 11 a.m. at the Elks Club, 702 N.E. 25th Ave.

    The group will welcome the state officers of the organization. It should be interesting to see what the officers have in mind for the improvement of the state Masonic High Twelve Club. This will be the last meeting until September.

    There will be a buffet lunch for $12 per person.
