Free Gospel Music Concert
 
Christ's Church of Marion County presents Jimmy Strickland, Southern Gospel recording artist, in a night of "Pure Southern Gospel Music."  Jimmy has performed on stage with well-known recording artists Bill Gather, Dottie Rambo, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Goodman Family and a host of others.  
There is no admission charge.  A free-will offering will be taken.

St. Jude sets flea market

St. Jude Catholic Community’s fourth annual flea market will be Saturday, Aug. 13, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.. on the church grounds at 443 Marion Oaks Drive in Marion Oaks.
Donations of items in good condition are currently being accepted. Anyone wishing to rent a table may do so for $20. More information may be obtained by calling Iris at 352-307-0565.

   Every Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon, a fantastic buffet is provided at one great price! It includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, grits, biscuits with country gravy, juice, fruit, coffee and more.

Hard Rock Casino Trip

St. Jude Catholic Community is sponsoring another bus trip to the Hard Rock Café and Casino in Tampa on Saturday, Aug. 20. Tickets are $30 per person. Each person gets $25 returned for free play and a $5 food voucher. Ocala Symphony to hold auditions

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra will be holding auditions on Aug. 27 for specific open positions, and will also be accepting those who wish to audition for the first-call sub-list.  Auditions will take place in the Fine Arts Building (No. 4) of the College of Central Florida at 3001 S.W. College Road in Ocala.
If you have auditioned for the sub-list at any point in the last two seasons, there is no need to re-audition unless you are auditioning for a now open position. New sub-list applicants should prepare five standard orchestral excerpts of their choice, while position applicants must follow the excerpt requirements listed on the OSO website.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1975, currently performs eight subscription concerts a year at the Ocala Breeders Sales Auditorium plus special performances and outreach to youth. It is a 501c3 non-profit corporation supported entirely by ticket sales, donations, sponsorships and grants, with new offices in the Seven Sisters Inn Annex located at 820 S.E. Fort King St. in Ocala. Performance dates and tickets for subscription concerts, the “SoundArt” series in partnership with the Appleton Museum of Art, as well as Handel’s Messiah are available at the OSO office or through www.ocalasymphony.com.

Senior bowling league to meet

A meeting for a new senior bowling league will be held Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. at AMF Galaxy East Lanes, 3225 S.E. Maricamp Road, Ocala. The Monday Senior Mixed League will bowl at 1 p.m. starting Sept. 12. There will be four bowlers per team in a sanctioned league. Entries may be as individuals or as a team.

A fundraiser for Operation Christmas Child, collecting items to fill shoe boxes or donations, will take place at the Walmart on State Road 200 on Sept. 16-17, and the Walmart on Southwest 19th Avenue Road and 27th Avenue on Oct. 7-8.

Golf event to benefit Special Olympics

The inaugural “Be a Fan” benefit golf tournament for Special Olympics Marion County, sponsored by the Ocala Palms Community, will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at Ocala Palms Golf and Country Club.
There will be donuts, juice and coffee at 7:30 a.m. and a four-person best ball shotgun scramble at 8:30 a.m.
Cost is $75 per player and includes green fees and cart, range balls and buffet lunch. There will be prizes and raffles.

Christian 12 Step fashion show

The Christian 12 Step Ministry of Ocala, an addiction alcohol and substance abuse recovery program, is holding its first fashion show and luncheon. All proceeds will benefit the Christian 12 Step Ministry in their mission to help those in need of substance recovery.
The show will take place on Monday, Sept. 19 at noon in the Royal Oaks Golf Club Dining Room at Oak Run Country Club in Ocala. Tickets are $25 per person and include lunch, entertainment, door prizes and a fashion show exclusively by Beall’s Department Store.
Christian substance abuse treatment effectively combines spiritual healing with a traditional rehabilitation program. The Christian 12 Step Ministry helps heal lives and families here in our community. This fun event of fashion and pampering will help support their mission and our community.

Church seeks vendors
The Church of the Advent, 11251 S.W. County Road 484, is holding its annual Trash to Treasure sale on Saturday Sept 24. (Rain date Oct 1). This will be an outdoor event. Crafters, Flea Market and Food Vendors are invited to attend. Spaces will be 10 x 10 with many of them being in the shade and rent for $15.00 each. VFW plans flea market

VFW Post 4781 will hold a flea market on Oct. 7 and 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. There will be bargains galore inside out out.
The organization needs your donations of household goods, small or large.  Proceeds benefit Veterans Services.  Small items may be brought in boxes, and left in the corner of the dining room.  We can pick up large items.  Hot Dogs and hamburgers will be available along with a bake sale.  Larger donations - call Art for pickup of large items at 352-209-0668.  Want your own table to sell your items?
